Just been talking about radio DJ's on motoring (usual thread drift!) and found myself wondering if there will ever be anyone to replace the likes of my favourite DJ John Peel. I used to listen to all his night shows and taped them to make sure I didn't miss any juicy titbits. You actually felt like he was talking to you personally, he was always self deprecating and modest but he was a really warm human being with a brilliant turn of phrase and dry wit. His voice as he got older just seemed to get more charismatic, when I heard him it felt like wearing a pair of favourite slippers.
I was pretty stunned by his sudden death and went to his funeral in Bury St.Edmunds, and very glad that I did as the music (howling wolf, undertones, roy orbison) they played over the crowd was great, and lifted everyones spirits even though it was a very cold day.
Who's your favourite DJ?
