>> Subjunctive Shirley? Or should I have stayed for the second half of the lesson?
Well, i always understood the "was/were" question to be effectively the impossible v the possible, with the labels subjunctive and conjunctive respectively. But now Google doesnt bear me out, so i may have learned something.
Do you remember Ask the Family? Sometimes Mr Thompson (teacher) or Mrs Thompson (teacher) or possibly one of the Thompson children(want to be teachers) would proffer an answer and Robert would say "Ah tish, Mr Thompson, would that it were, would that it were".
I'm not sure what grammatical form that is but I like and use it sometimes.
