It probably is.
But the mistake is to believe that translates into any statement on the quality of English players. And, as can be seen, England struggles to put together a very good team.
I understand the optimism for England success, the wish for success, all of that. I don't quite get the surprise when they play in a bland, characterless manner and fail to perform well.
Seriously, have they done *anything* of note in a competition since 1966? And that itself was hardly a model display.
