Pat,

I wasn't trying to correct anybody, merely trying to add to the thread, although I admit provenance of information is a bit of a hobby-horse of mine.

That doesn't mean everything has to be nailed on correct, there's a place for 'rumour has it' and 'in my opinion'.

'According to' is a phrase I like - the reader can make up their own mind as to the likely veracity of what is being said or written.
