An Airbus A321 en route from Palma de Mallorca to Gatwick declared an emergency and was forced into a rapid descent. Flight #ZB227 was diverted to Marseilles and landed just after half-past twelve this afternoon.
Then, just 20 minutes later, a second Monarch A321, #ZB403, which was flying from Faro in Portugal to Birmingham also declared an emergency. It was able to start its approach into Birmingham Airport and was able to land safely.
It has been reported that flight #ZB403 may have made an emergency descent because one of its passengers suffered a “diabetic emergency.” That is unconfirmed at this time.
