Slightly off topic but I thought that if you had a mortgage then it was compulsory to have at least buildings insurance.
When I bought my first house the lender insisted I have both buildings & contents cover with them, at great expense too. Today insurance seems to be much cheaper, unless you put in expensive claims or live in a high risk area. Same as car insurance I suppose.
I use comparison sites for every renewal, and my current insurer invariably matches the lowest quote, like for like, although this year Aviva send me £20 in M & S vouchers to match the lowest quote. I cannot understand anyone not insuring their property, even if only the minimum contents.
