IIRC most aircraft cannot dump fuel but just fly around to use up fuel in order to get lighter than the max landing weight for the type.
I can only recall one significant on board event when the wide body aircraft took off and did quick circuit at quite low altitude before returning back to where we had started.
That caused the brakes to overheat causing a further delay to the departure.
I have flown hundreds of times on many airlines and helicopters in many countries.
My near misses re aircraft were both when I was on the ground and were many decades ago.
Both were well known Heathrow accidents. Two hours earlier I had been where the aircraft crashed.
I enjoy being flown so do not worry about the statistics.
PC batteries catching alight seems a much greater risk to aircraft but how many examples are you aware of suffering that problem on the ground ?
