Just treat the court as a game, which it is.
If you want to win, you do all you can within the rules.
It's also a comedy of manners.
So if I want some information from a barrister, I will say something like:
"I'm sorry to trouble you Mr Barrister, and I won't keep you long, but could you please tell me..."
I'm actually not the least bit sorry to trouble him, and I will keep him as long as I like.
He knows that, too, but it's all part of the game.
The more you say 'please' and 'thank you', the more you will get.
It's the same with getting a solicitor - it improves your chances in the game and it's in the rules, so you do it.
Looks like Mr Lorry Driver is finally prepared to be steered in the right direction.
Seems to have taken a bit of effort, hope he appreciates it.
