 Citroen Xantia - 00 1997 HDI 110 Overheating Positive Lead - Bromptonaut
Posted for benefit of any other owners of Xantias (and other similar models).

As mentioned on the ‘weather’ thread my Xantia let me down again last week. Failed to start at station last Wednesday.

Apparent as soon as bonnet was raised that positive lead from battery was badly damaged. Some evidence of melting at terminal post. Initial diagnosis was a short to chassis. Lucky it didn’t self immolate.

Harness replaced Battery > fusebox > alternator and now running normally.

As it’s second time I’ve had this trouble (previous Nov 88) I did a bit of research on French Car Forums. Seems Xantias are prone to this as exposed wiring flexes and corrodes under influence of water ingress setting up increased resistance and/or decrease in conductive cross section.

Mine was in exactly same state as pictures on p1 of that thread.
