Flogging a watch permitted a budget for a new bike. A Honda Tansalp is stashed in the garage awaiting decent weather !

Lovely weather on the C Blanca....driving around the region past 9 days and quite a lot of U.K. bikers around.
And an awful lot of cycling teams and clubs, which is par for the course this time of year.

Another one? Dare I ask how many's that now?

Yes, I'm jealous.

Henry Cole had one on test recently in ITV4's Motorcycle show.

It looked very much like my type of bike.

Am in Lanzarote at the moment and the roads are full of cyclists. The island is a favourite for training for clubs and national teams. Saw a sight I’ve never seen before though yesterday: a one legged cyclist. He was going at quite a speed!

You can indeed get up a good speed if you've got good clips - or the clipless thingys.

Be a bad fall though when you have a 'wrong side' clipless topple.

I gave up on using clipless pedals after my clipless screw up ended in a collision with a relative of my daughter's husband and her being thrown off into a bed of nettles. This was ten years ago when the TdF was in Yorkshire.

Went back old fahioned clips/straps.

>> A Honda Tansalp

I initially read that as tankslap.

A splendid machine.

Just before a long road-trip at the weekend I finally dragged it out ! Needed fuel so a thirty mile round trip to a cheap garage along some brilliant roads, Dyserth, Caerwys, Rhydymwyn (where the UK pioneered atom bomb research - the site is massive and largely intact, well worth a visit) and home another way.

What a fine little bike, so much lighter on the road than the Guzzi and everything is so very Honda, I always considered them to be built like a Swiss watches with beautifully light controls, good sitting position, the weekend run should see first service mileage. Great stuff so far

Going anywhere nice?

Aberystwyth (Long way round) ! :-).....bit of a sighting lap to check the bike out before any potential summer trip.

I'm quite tempted by the Africa Twin. I don't know if you've seen Richa Vida on You Tube. He rode one down to and around Morocco recently.

I envy you, RP. The Transalp would be on my radar were I still biking, as would Triumph's new 400 twin.

Unfortunately my balance has deteriorated with age which puts anything on two wheels out of the question now.

Pfff..I’ll stick with my ‘touring’ Vitara.
Can’t bring back buckets of Albariño y Godello in a few panniers!
Safe riding and enjoy….great adventures lie ahead.

Well, it went mostly OK ! The bike was fine covered over 250 miles with ease along some of the best motorcyling roads in Wales, the only problem was other road user, not least some badly ridden big bikes - aboslute madness in some places. Nice to see Police bikes and speed camera vans in some sensible places. The bike is comfortable, quick and economical (around 65 mpg). Great machine is towns, it appears to do your thinking for you when ridden at speed limited roads, easy ride in the 20s...

Sunday morning saw me with a massive cold which ended in me riding home early.

I have to sort some luggage system out for it.

Does everything I expected from all the reviews I read or watched !

Well, there was a premature end to my riding last year. As mentioned before Mrs RP broke her leg early August. So the bike wasn't ridden and was finally garaged in September - I decided to hang up my biking gear this year and that was it, apart from reading bike magazines that come through the post I lost interest. A friend invited me on a Swan Song ride (Northern Ireland) in 2025 and that wqas going to be it. I have to say this spring, seeing other bikes, especially the new 'Lego" BMW I felt my heart skip a beat....Went to sort the Trans Alp yesterday - it started on the button and subject to a few checks next week it will be taxed and is good to go. Starting it I felt the old hearbeat thing and rush of endorphines......Another trip is on the cards in June down to Portsmouth to visit the D-Day Tunnels event...best go by bike I guess...

I'm green with envy. Age related balance issues have put the blocks on two wheels, both powered and pedal. I'm ok at speed, but ten mph or under I get the wobbles and my confidence is shot because of that.

Nothing I'd desire more now than the 400 Triumph twin, it would suit my style of riding to a T, and the Trans Alp would also figure on the radar. Every time a bike goes past I can feel a tear in the eye, once a biker always a biker.

I managed to block feeling of loss when I saw bikes until very recently. My friend has a Triumph 400 and he loves it...

Should you ever get the inclination, sail BF to Bilbao or Santander, explore Basque Country, maybe head east to Andorra, or better still, further East to the Spanish Pyrenees.

I meet quite a few UK bikers on the ferry, and quite a few more, of all nationalities, when I venture off the beaten track on my travels in that part of the world.

Later in the year we have booked to do a tour in the MX-5, Portsmouth-Santander/Santander-Portsmouth, to take in the Picos de Europa and the Douro valley. The accommodation includes 3 paradors that I'm looking forward to.

If it goes well I think we'll look at going east next time if we remain sufficiently limber.

The outbound ferry is actually 2 nights and day at sea. Sails at 21.30, and arrives 34 hours later at 08.00 on the third day. And I said I'd never go on a cruise! We've upgraded to a cell with a window. At least I think that's what 'outside cabin' means.

Now surely, the men of a certain age on here, who want to recapture their youth, aspire to this

I hated the damn things. You'd be cruising along at 30ish on an urban road and some spotty youth on one of those would come past, stretched over the tank, all noise and smoke so he could gleefully boast to his mates how his Fizzy could burn off a 750.

I had a Kawasaki AR80. A similar hair dryer.

Some b arstard undid the oil drain plug and I didn't notice - there was no change in performance until it suddenly ceased and threw me off.

Manatee…snap.
Mid May 21:30 to Santander on a Monday evening, then a leisurely 4 day drive to
my one week rental in Moraira on the northern CBlanca , before another leisurely off the beaten track 4 days north to the Picos…24 of us in my group ( CBlanca Mountain Walkers) staying in Ojedo, a few Kms from Potes, for 8 nights. A choice of two daily walks…I expect to be leading a few of them.
Then return to the same Moraira rental for 2 weeks before sailing home from Bilbao.
Outside cabin as usual…I really enjoy my BF trips to/ from Spain, preferable to last years effort to save money by using DFDS Newhaven > Dieppe and a meander through France to meet up with the CBMW for our Andorra walking holiday last September.
BF ain’t cheap, especially travelling solo with a nice cabin….£368 outbound, £445 inbound from Bilbao using Early Bird booking discount and Family & Friends discount ( the latter now discontinued).
I recommend the Spanish Pyrenees..I’ll be back there later this year, ferries already booked, £827 return Portsmouth > Santander > Portsmouth September/ October. Some fabulous scenery & driving roads.
