Do I need it? Should I want it?

My trusty ThinkPad T430 can't take it - chip too old, BIOS probably also, screen res only 1600 x 900. Well it is at least 10 years old. I've had over 4 years out of it for £325, during which time it has been used every day, carted everywhere and knocked off a few desks without visible injury.

If I do decide to update a few years, and with Windows 11 in mind, should I get a touch screen?

Quite odd which machines are 'selected' for the upgrade to 11.

My work laptop, a consumer model bought in haste and on price so we had enough of them in the pandemic, is laden with bloatware. For reasons I cannot fathom the C drive is all but full to the extent it struggles with updates for essential tools we need - like a benefit calculator. Yet a few weeks ago it suddenly started in W11.

Got it to go back but it's tried again since....

A stripped down version of Win 11 that will run from a USB stick just to get an idea of what it's new lipstick looks like. Runs on 'non-win11-compatible' hardware as well.
