My Monitor went bang! - Manatee
The 18 year old 17" Dell monitor I got out of a skip a few years ago has just emitted a loud crack and is no longer showing signs of life. The fuse in the plug is intact. Is this a common failure mode?

I used it about twice a year to do tax returns and accounts, which are on an attached ancient PC. I've reluctantly ordered a new 24" for £99. The boss can have that and I'll inherit her old one.

I expect things to last longer than me nowadays.

Old enough to be a CRT jobbie?

My Gateway monitor, rebadged Toshiba IIRC, expired with a similar death crack. Irreparable according to local repairman.

No, flat panel. Which I suppose is low voltage - but the PS is internal so maybe that's what's popped.

If so I'd better prepare for a few more consumer products to throw in the sponge!

But I'm still buoyed by the collapse of a certain stout party.

I'm just pleased the JRM has been made to look like a dick.

The boss now has the new 24" widescreen, and I have gone up the hierarchy to what was her 2006 vintage LG 19" 4:3. Luxury.
