Although I suppose that if it was that or jump you could take a chance.

I just have a vision of a grossly overweight individual blocking it halfway down with 50 people stuck above!

How fast are you going at the bottom? 32 ft/sec/sec.
I remember an exercise at college, calculating the velocity of a turd at the bottom of a tall building. ISTR there's some sort of device that's installed beyond a certain drop.

Sorry, sloppy posting by me - I cannot now find the original video that showed queues of real people jumping straight into the multi-level version. However the promotional videos which appear to be CGI people can be seen here. They probably could not find employees willing to demonstrate?

Notice that first video only shows people entering the chute, not anyone coming out alive at the bottom!
Second video shows even less.
