What is going on here? Vauxhall cars burst into flames and apparently the excecutives knew about this for five years.
Still producing and and selling cars with a dangerous fault.
Shouldn't prison sentences be in order here or are these boys above the law?

Depends if ones sold in the US did, if not i doubt it.

Wasn't that a case in the USA where a motor manufacturer decided it was cheaper to pay compensation for deaths than modify millions of cars?

There's a thread on the Zafira issue in Motoring (link below). But I'll leave this one here for now as it is tending towards discussion about the moral and legal angle rather than the technical.

Carp maker makes carp cars.
No surprise then
Carp maker does not care about potential deaths as no public liability.
No surprise then.
Carp maker did nothing for years.
Does anyone in their right minds believe GM would do anything which cost money unless forced to?

Interesting that all HJ has to say about this car under Good and Bad (25-1-2016)
is "Complaint of continual electrical problems..."

Maybe he wants to maintain his access to the GM press fleet.

Not all of them, which will no doubt upset WillDeBeest ;)
Only one of the models is affected - The Zafira-B. Which does seem very odd, because you'd think the components would also be used in other Vauxhalls too.
|
...Zafira-B...
Only Vauxhall names its cars to sound like nuclear power stations. I'd have to think hard before saying which I'd rather have on my drive.
But that Zafira is the true Vauxhall, the über (small U but would work with a capital too)-Vauxhall, the Vauxhall that says 'I gave life my best shot and life gave me this.' It's best in sun-faded plain red, two of its wheels wearing mismatched pound-shop trims, the other two plain black. If you had one and it caught fire, how hard would you try to put it out?
If you see one that isn't burning, don't look at the people inside. They're not bad people, but the oh-the-humanity feeling that there's simply nothing you can do for them will haunt you. For ever.

WdB, do I detect Trumpist plagiarism from an earlier post by Runfer?
Could be wrong of course, Tequila Shots Time is still in my veins

>Only Vauxhall names its cars to sound like nuclear power stations.
Maybe they didn't want to follow the Cattle-class, Economy-class, Superior-class designations used by another manufacturer?
|
Why did they choose the LAC models to sound like the ingredients list from a bag of value burgers from Iceland?

It's also known as the Mk2 Zafira.
And others such as Ford & VW also use "Mk" to identify different models.
Mk1 Escort, and so on. Mk1 Golf, etc.
