Died today.
Parts of her were 81 years old.
(Yeah - bad taste joke, I know - but a lot of her stuff was in bad taste too!)

She was always quite funny, but she really blossomed as a crazed old harridan making heartless jokes about colostomy bags and fatal diseases.
RIP

Thanks, those reminded me how much I liked her.

Clever woman and anyone who thought it was all spite completely missed what she was about.

Tributaries have been pouring in...

Some good jokes, never met the Lady, she looked fun not now she is dead.
Something she said about Palestine bad taste.

I think she was a hideous old harridan who hid her appalling spitefulness and rudeness behind so called wit.

Honestly Westpig. How can you be funny in that mode without being over-the-top rude?
OK, the jokes weren't to your taste. But a lot of them were damn funny all the same.

>> I think she was a hideous old harridan
that was her persona for the act, using her age an excuse
>>who hid her appalling spitefulness and rudeness

there was no spite there at all, rudeness? yes sure lot of humour and wit is.
IMHO she was a mixed bag (ha! see what I did there?) some of it fantastic, some of it pretty dire.

However adoring the fans may be, no stand-up would think they could win them all. You just can't.
I never saw a standup incapable of delivering a naff passage.

Bad taste was her stock in trade Dutchie. And she was a Jewish comedian playing to Zionist-leaning American audiences.

Bryony Gordon in today's comic tells a story that makes Rivers sound really sweet.
