I'm at FiL's house with his new laptop, and I've enabled Remote Assistance on it so I can hopefully solve any minor problems he might have from home. But to use Windows Remote Assistance I need to know the laptop's Fully Qualified Domain Name.
In System, the 'Full computer name' is displayed as x-PC (x is just his first name), and Workgroup is WORKGROUP. But that's not enough; how do I find out the other bits?
His ISP is Sky, if that helps.

...or is there a better free alternative?

you cant have a FQDN unless you have a domain on the net. Dont use the MS tool, get one that works through a proxy service like
www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

Many thanks Z - teamviewer seems to do the job nicely.

Yep, I use Teamviewer pretty much every day (controlling upstairs PC from downstairs), also worked debugging PCs at home from Sweden. Not managed to break it yet.
