I use Skype for long distance phone calls. The Skype on my laptop works fine, but not on my PC.
In 'Check Settings', I have ticks against microphone, speaker, computer and connection. no tick against webcam. If I then click on webcam, the message is 'video not available' 'video isn't supported by this call'.
The webcam is plugged in and live (green light on webcam). I can see myself in video, but the setup won't work as it should.
I am using Windows 7, the webcam is a Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000.
Any ideas please?,

Tried that. Everything seems to be in order, It's simply that the webcam is shown as not having a check mark against it - when it is working! The video won't go.
More head scratching called for I think.

I had a problem recently on a brand new W7 HP desktop machine that would not run a newly installed version of Skype, whatever I did.
However uninstalling the latest version, and installing an older V4.x (I think) version of the software solved all the problems.
Worth a go?

The Skype sound and video setup can be unexpectedly strange. For instance you have to Mute the Mike (or at least in my case in XP as per Skype's instructions). See:

Thank you for the responses. I have followed the various ideas and bits of advice.
I uninstalled Skype and installed v.4.0. No Improvement.
I have now updated to the latest? version of Skype. It works after a fashion, but with very poor quality, very slow, poor speech and the thumbnail of myself in the corner of the screen seems to have some sort of barrier over the lower half of the image.
I have checked the drivers for the webcam and audio and they are up to date and working properly.
If I click on a contact and then 'check settings' all the various components now have a tick against them with the exception of connection. Previously there was no tick against webcam, but there was a tick against connection, now the positions are reversed.
