Just opened my email account and found a third email from a friend in Surrey.
I have spoken to her previously about them...all from the same source, flogging phones and suchlike.
Today it was this...

So, has her account been hijacked and if so, what is to be done ?
She's not too computer savvy and prefers to phone us rather than email.

I'd say all she needs to do is change the password for that email account.
PS. You've got mail in your profile email. Perhaps in spam?

I assume its an online account, like hotmail or some such like?
Its been hacked, if she still has access to it, she should change the password.
It might just be spoofed email, someone has had her address book away and pretending to be her.
IN which case she can do nothing.,

Neighbour had similar and I did a quick scan for them and found nothing. Emails would have appeared to come from their computer because they were only sent when they logged into their online email account.
Before I spent any real time there I suggested they change the online password and see if the emails stopped being sent 'from them' and that seemed to work for them. Note the dodgy emails were sent from them to people they knew. So it seemed likely to either be some form of bot on their machine or the email hacked.

Most likely caused by weak passwords such as "Liverpool", "Manchesterunited" that sort of thing. The bots just try and hack in at random and if the password is easy they will get lucky.

Daughter had something similar a bit back, she reckoned there was something odd stuck in her outbox and deleting it cured the problem.
