Well, not too new. Before Christmas our 26 inch Samsung threw it's dummy out and wouldn't pick up signals from either +box or aerial. So we went up a size due to old age and bought a 32 incher.

I could still get menu etc but no input at all. My son took it to put in his lad's room so he could play with his games on it.
That wasn't successful either so he was going to chuck it.
I said let me have it back and I'll try it as a monitor......Just done it !

It was set on DTV as a source and it just kept crashimg after about 5 seconds.

However, if you hit the source button on the side you could find a more stable source. A couple more pokes at the button and C4P came up in bigscreen.
This will be good for me as I'm waiting for my other cataract op and effectively only have one eye atm.

My numptoid question...can I get the sound from the PC into the telly and how ? I've got various sets of audio leads, white/red/yellow. Will they go in the PC ?

With just about any desktop PC there will be a 'line out' connection on the back, or as a last resort a headphone socket. There should be some sort of connection on the TV that this can be connected to, if you tell us the type of TV hopefully we can find a manual or summat online to check.

On al laptop then it's generally down to using the headphone socket or an external USB sound card.

You will need a lead with a 3.5mm jack plug on one end, and two RCA phono plugs on the other.

The 3.5mm jack plug goes into the PC line out or headphone socket. The RCA phono plugs to the TV

Your TV may have RCA phono input sockets for audio, or if it doesent you will need to buy a Scart plug with RCA input phono sockets.

I'm wondering if the TV can cope with video from VGA socket and audio from SCART at the same time though?

So we need to know what audio input is paired with the VGA video input, if any. Most of these newfangled TVs do seem to have a multltude of inputs, so hopefully something suitable.

probably not, I would guess all audio inputs are live all the time*

I am guessing Audio and video are not linked. Its much easier if it has RCA sockets of course.

* the giveaway is in the setup screens. If it has audio levelling control for each input they are not linked or all live at the same time

In that case wouldn't you get into a real mess if two audio sources were 'live' at once?

Hopefully Ted can tell us what his telly is and we can work if this idea will fly or not.

It's a Samsung 26" as I said earlier. About 3/4 yrs old but I don't know the model no without disconnecting and turning it round...so that'll have to wayt.
As I said, it's got the red and white inputs and the PC has USB speakers with a 3.5 jack.

The audio lead - £1.25 delivered, if you can get the RCA inputs to work at the same time as the VGA -

The only Samsung 26" TV manual I could find on their site suggests that you can use VGA video plus 3.5mm stereo jack sound. If your TV has a 3.5mm input you might be home and dry.

Pal whose in the PC business called and confirmed that the 3.5 lead mentioned above would be ok.

He recommended a local DIY shop where I'll be passing tomorrow, so I'll pick one up.
