 Toolbars. - Ted

My ' computer numptyness ' knows no bounds,

I have had a toolbar taking up space for ages. I don't use it, I've never used it. It's to do with smileys and cursors. I don't know where it arrived from.
Above and below it are blank ' toolbars '
The three take up about an inch and a quarter of screen !

How do I get rid of the blighters ?
Bed calls now but I expect at least 50 scornful answers by morning.

Heh, even I know this one. What browser are you using?

If Internet Explorer or Firefox, go to View> Toolbars> at the top and untick all the ones you don't want to see any more.

Are we talking Google/Yahoo/Bing type things?

If they're Firefox ones they're probably add ons (extensions) which you can disable (look under Tools/Add-ons)

You might also find an uninstall option in the options for the toolbar itself - if no obvious button, right click on it and see if that works.

Some might appear in the programs list in Control Panel/Uninstall.

I would also run a Malwarebytes scan just to make sure once you have removed the tool bars.

I am currently working on a script to remove those damn tool bars.

Toolbars arrive on the back of installs, usually programs you download. Never accept defaults when doing installs, always take the "expert" install option and take off the default tick for the toolbar.

If you right click on the Toobar area in question a menu should appear giving the option of Enabling or Disabling various features.

Also, as Zero points out, installing some programs often brings up the means to install items such as the Ask toolbar - it's easy to miss unchecking the box to prevent this being installed as it's already a Default setting.

Right clicking on the Toolbar brings up the same menu as going through View.....
