 Error Message - Duncan
When I click on the mail icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen, this is the message that I get:-

Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed

I am using Internet Explorer. Any ideas how I can rectify this?

Simple language please.

...Any ideas how I can rectify this?...

No, but I'm sure somebody will.

My suggestion for the future would be to consider switching to Firefox, and hotmail or Googlemail.

What is your default mail client?

note - the resident pedant will now say it is which, not what. :-)

Do you mean moi?

Shurely not.

The resident pedant is operating outside his comfort zone in computer-related, so I restrict the making of bold statements to the other forums.

Mere suggestions and opinions, and not particularly bold ones at that.

No need to ask for directions with Mr AppleMac - so far.

(That was nearly a bold statement.)

Edit: Enough of this drivel, can anyone help Duncan get back on his email?

"can anyone help Duncan get back on his email?"

As a short term measure, fire up your email client (which is... ?) directly, rather than via IE. That will at least get you to your email until someone comes up with a solution.

If you're using MSoft Live Mail, an update was issued recently. Now "branded" .... 2011. Might be worth installing. Personally I do think it's an improvement.

Hi Im not sure if I can help, apologies if I dont

Are you using Windows Live mail our Outlook Express as your mail client?
AFAIK The above are addons/part of Internet Explorer and share the same settings

If they are not installed I would get them from MS which are avaialble free of Charge.

If they are I would check that they are the default mail programs

Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Programs

Tick the Check Box "Internet Explorer shouls check its the default" also its worth selecting the program in the drop down box above this option, I cant check for sure here at work as the option has been greyed out by IT so I cant change it.

Close Mail and Restart IE and mail

I hope this may help - apologies in Advance if it does not.

PS, Anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong

Duncan, the assumption here is that you don't have an email client installed. Like Windows live mail 2011, or Outlook or Thunderbird, or similar. I guess you are using a web browser mail client.

If that is the case, such email buttons, or "send to email" links will not work.

That gives a solution to set Outlook or Outlook-Express as the mail client.

AFAI can recall, Duncan did not configure his new W7 computer to use a mail client, and relied on Yahoo web mail. He also mentioned having installed the yahoo tool bar at one point and was recently advised to remove it.

This is why I asked the questions I did in my first reply, we need to know how his PC is configured after all the changes he was advised to make some changes by Zero here

An update.

I am using:-

Windows 7
Internet Eplorer - or Google Chrome
Yahoo Mail UK & Ireland

I can access my mail because I have Yahoo Mail etc in my Favorites (You don't how much it hurts to type that without a 'u') or in my Bookmarks. It is simply that the mail icon is sitting on the toolbar doing nothing.

Thanks for the responses.

So you are NOT using a mail client, but using webmail.

If it is doing nothing, remove it:

IIRC you have to install Windows Live Mail separately.

Sorry, can't agree completely...:-)
