For some reason Canon have made it impossible to download pictures from my Canon EOS90D by a USB connection. You now have to download them wirelessly. Unfortunately, I have been unable to connect my camera to my PC. I have also always had problems connecting my Canon printers wirelessly to my PC. Once connected there is never a problem but it is always difficult to make the initial connection.
Two weeks ago I downloaded some pics of my new Volvo to my PC using the EOS Utility and a USB connection. Over the weekend the USB connection didn't work and strangely, the EOS Utility was totally different and the connection could only be made wirelessly. I have persevered all weekend without success. After inputting my password all seems fine but it then fails to connect. It may well be my system going by my previous problems connecting printers.
Does anyone know of any software that I can use to connect via a usb port?

In my limited experience if you connect a device with storage to a Windows PC then without any software you can see the storage in Explorer, and navigate round it, copy from and to etc etc, whether it's connected wirelessly or by cable.
You might not recognise the names of the folders but there won't be much choice. Pics are usually under folder DCIM on most devices these days.

Assume you can’t take memory card out and use a memory card reader?
