Lenovo LOQ Laptop Screen Fault - zippy
I am getting truly pee'd off - everything seems to be breaking - car, tv, now laptop!

My laptop's screen has gone wrong. It still is displaying images but there are thousand of feint grey / black lines on the screen - it's like looking through a very fine mesh and is unusable, from top to bottom. Lines are running horizontally.

Any ideas what could be causing this / recommendations please?

Looking up numbers for exorcists next!

Thanks!

Looks like it's a common problem:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=55rZDuKK8Cg I think - I can't see the image clearly

Purchased early November 23 - so just out of warranty!

I purchased an MSI portable monitor to use with work quite some time ago, but work's laptop was so tied down it wouldn't work with it.

I have just rescued it from the den and it's plugged in to the laptop's HDMI port and seems to be working fine, so it definitely seems to be a screen fault with the laptop.

It looks similar to the video above but the lines on my screen seem to be much finer.

The screen is also very "blotchy" - but the lines are so fine it could be a moire pattern.

Are you sure that the warranty is not 2 years? May not make a difference though - they rejected a warranty claim for a broken hinge due to 'misuse' which was not justified. Seems that this is their usual modus operandi.

Where did you buy it?

Costco & John Lewis, for example, offer 2 years on their websites.

laptop screen issues are invariably the ribbon cable. Good news is, its fixeable. If you can find someone to do it.

My venerable 2013 T430 Thinkpad did this. Pinged off the bezel, took out 4 screws that hold the screen in and reseated the ribbon cable connector. That fixed it the first time, about 3 years ago but hasn't work this week. It's had its time anyway.

I might have tried a new display in at £40 but it's a 1600 x 900 (the 1360 x 768 is very poor) and they have run out - people are asking £300 for them.

I've done it myself before on an older laptop. They were much easier to fix with small screws / bolts hidden behind little rubber pads. There is nothing like that on this and looking on line a hair drier is required to heat up the glue that holds the screen frame together and a metal spatula to prise the unit apart and in doing so it is necessary to sacrifice a number of hidden clips which that will break.

The top of the case also needs to come off to replace the ribbon cable which requires removal of the base and motherboard.

These things aren't designed with repair in mind any more.

They come in two distinct types. A 1500 quid commercial grade one will be fixable, A 500 quid consumer one usually aint.

Yes. I have recently been digging around the depths of the garage and found an ancient Thinkpad laptop. It's built like a tank.

When I find the matching power supply, I will switch it on (it's from 2010 or there abouts).
