Extending old laptop storage - Rudedog
I have an old Apple laptop that suits my usage but has a small (for today's standards) hard drive of 160gb.

My HD is over 75% full so my basic performance is suffering (only doing web browsing, bit of music and photos).

I've cleared off some large files which has improved things so I was thinking that if I bought a large USB external drive I could try getting well below 50% used on my drive.

Looking on Ebay there are so many of various capacities for under £30.

Any recommendations?

Should I go for a brand name or buy unbranded?

I'm thinking of a SSD rather than chance a failure of a traditional HD.

SSD's can fail! However, yeah a USB SSD is the way to go, Branded

Samsung, Lenovo, Seagate, etc etc

I know nothing about Apple but on a Windows laptop I'd just swap the internal drive for a slightly larger SSD. Maybe it's not so easy on an Apple.

If you are talking about moving off 40Gb of data a 64gb flash drive might do it more conveniently and cheaply. Here's one for less than £6.

Strange physical size, sometimes not compatible, hence expensive compared to PC.
