LOCKED --- MOTO G8 PLUS PHONE (Android type) - busbee
A couple of weeks ago, I bought G8. It now has a SIM and an active mobile account.

I recently went through the process of using Android 900 to condition the G8 including putting in my pin via it’s double input check method. So no doubt about what that is..

The G8 switched off a little time later and since then only the emergency phone number keypad is on offer to input anything in. A apart from choosing vibration or sound to alert me the phone is on.

I located a web program that unlocks Android phones which was copyrighted in 2020 – my guess is the prog. was written before the G8 came out, because it requires the use of a “digital” line input to remove the password/s and the G8 does not have such a connector. No USB.

The top of the G8 has what looks like a jack socket for a hearing aid.

So the G8 will be going back. Next time I will buy from someone who will set it up.

ANY USEFUL COMMENTS PLEASE --- before I apply for a return address label ?

Not particularly useful I'm afraid but I guess you mean locked as in it's on it's lock screen and you can't log in to it rather than the phone is locked to a particular network?

What is the Android 900 you refer to, do you have a link?

The supplier may be reluctant to take back a phone which has been "tampered" but there's a tiny chance they may be able to unlock it for you.

Locked like a safe.Useless without a key.

Whatever happened, it should still allow me to insert my pin, even if it rejects it as incorrect. Thus I would say it is a faulty phone. If I had gone via Amazon they would, most likely, agree.

900 is the version number for the android install program.

Factory reset

Press the Power button to restart in Recovery mode. If you see an Android robot with a red exclamation mark, press and hold the Power button, then press and release the Volume Up button to display the menu options. Use the Volume buttons to scroll to Wipe data/factory reset, then press the Power button to select it.

With all due respect to Smokie's link, it even confused me.

The first line should be "Press the button to begin the process of restarting in recovery mode.

Try this, step by step with pictures.

This will reset the phone to it's factory state. And WTF Android 900 is, or what conditioning the phone might entail, don't do either.

Just follow the power up prompts.

The G8 does have a USB, USB 3 socket.

No idea what "conditioning" is nor what double pin entry or Android 900 is or why you would use it Why dd you just not follow the power up prompts, methinks you havecocked it up

I think the G8 Plus has a type C USB socket, so perhaps you didn't realise what it was?

It's about the same size as the old type, but reversible.

Thanks a lot for all the help. I had no idea it existed.

I did come across a program that would just remove the password stuff from android if the G8 had a 'digital' link -- i.e a usb one. There is a rectangular hole, about 10-12mm across, that is not a usb one.

There is a 5mm or so round hole. -- I don't have it here to look at just now.
However, with the info provided here I won't need it

Yes it is, it's USB 3, there is a USB 3 cable in the box with the phone.

Yes it is, it's USB 3, there is a USB 3 cable in the box with the phone. You need a USB to USB 3 cable to attach to your existing kit if you don't have USB 3 sockets. You were supplied with a USB 3 fast charger

Yes it is, it's called a type-c and also doubles as a power socket. Go to this site and scroll down. About the 5th picture is exactly the USB C socket.

The phone should have come with a power cable which doubles as a data cable.

If it didn't, they are readily available and cheap from any phone supplier / shop / website. Simply ask for a USB C power/data cable.

I can only imagine that it performs a hard reset, otherwise it would make a nonsense out of any theft protection on a phone. The point about a hard reset is that whilst it will give you access to the phone it removes all data, passwords and personal information at the same time.

But you don't need it, just follow the key press sequence I linked to above and you're done.

“The phone should have come with a power cable which doubles as a data cable.”

Yes I got that, and used it for charging the G8, using a mains plug usb. Thought it was just a charger. I will shelve that for now.

Oops, sorry. Sometimes I don't notice but I usually remember to check.

Still, the other link is (I just checked) and that contains the procedure.

Good luck.
