Itunes - playlist identification - BobbyG
I am going to have a concerted effort over the next few weeks to tidy up my music and in particular get rid of duplicates of songs.

Taking one for example, I have 5 copies of Hotel California. Now this will also be on a couple of my playlists no doubt, is there any way, from the Itunes Library, of working out which of the 5 are on a playlist?

Not that I know of, and I'm a moderately experienced iTunes user. Of course if you inspected the song in your play list you could probably determine which version from length, bit rate, album name or, worst case, by right clicking and Get Info which tells you which file it refers to - but that's plain tedious.

Dunno how big your collection is, but you'd probably find it quicker to just delete from library then re-add the stuff to the playlists - if the same version already exists it will tell you, with the choice to skip or add.
