Trying to set up daughters laptop.
Selected UK keyboard settings and the @symbol is above the ‘ symbol but when I press this button neither of these symbols are appearing.
Have systematically went through the whole keyboard using shift alt ctrl on each button and can’t find it anywhere!
Any help?

You should just need to hold down Shift and then the key for the ampersand ( @ ).

Does the key without pressing shift produce the correct character or is it really a case of faulty key.
When the @ symbol is not on that key it is often then found on the '2' key with shift. That's where a Mac would have it. I think that's the American layout.

What character are you getting? None?

Found it guys.
Although keyboard setting was UK it was UK with Sweden when I actually scrolled down in the settings.
All sorted now!
Cheers for help
