Why would Hotmail want to know your used-id and password - they already have them.

Not had it yet but no doubt I will. Anything asking you to provide your id and/or pw or to click on a link is a scam.

I'm amazed hotmail hasn't marked it as spam.

Because its not from Hotmail. I could send you an email seemingly from any email address, its called spoofing. I could insert an active link in the email that says reply to hotmail, but actually is not, but another address.

I went through a phase of getting emails apparently from myself which of course they were not. All manner of things were on offer including equipment for enlarging one's gentleman's areas and drugs purporting to improve the performance of same.

Of course I just sent them to spam and they eventually stopped. I do though remain curious to know how they do that and am at least slightly intrigued to know why they think I might have a need for their rather specialised products...............

Only sent to gentlemen of a certain age....

They must mistakenly think I'm English.

Aye, the jocks need this stuff at a much earlier age.

On the contrary. The regular wearing of the kilt in one's formative years allows for unrestricted development and lifelong health........One develops an appreciation for the benefits of fresh air and if blessed an early immunity to midges.

Anyway, apologies for the thread drift ! ( again )

Ah, such a tortured childhood explains all.

It's the hardened blood vessels that keep the midges away. They know they're wasting their time.

One of your mates clicked the link, his address book contained the mail address of Humph D'bout.

I'm aware of that but Hotmail will mark potentially anything as spam, not just mail coming from a hotmail account.

Had a bit of fun yesterday with a male colleague who has a hotmail address.

An email from 'him' to me calling me Friend said, " I have just bought a very nice handbag for a very good price and I got it from xxxxxxx.

I replied, "Eric, I did not know you had taken to carrying a handbag these days. Don't you get some funny looks?"

The emailer did not know my name or that Eric was a man's name.

Someone else got an email from 'him' about a nice dressing gown.
He was pretty cheesed off after replying to us all.

According to one PC Mag, 70% of hotmail is spam and so hotmail have to use extensive filters.

Your friend,s, or one or more of common contact has/have their PC(s) infected by one or more spambots. They send out automated emails spoofing them as sent from fake hotmail addresses or use genuine addresses harvested from the address book. Your friends/contacts circle would be well advised to all simultaneously have their PCs thoroughly cleaned of spyware/viruses.
