Ray Tomlinson - the man who sent the FIRST Email in 1971 was told by his boss @ the time

“Don't tell anyone! This isn't what we're supposed to be working on.”

Pioneer in Internet, use of the @ sign, sent the 1st email between computers 10 feet apart and changed communications even more than the Penny Post.

He died aged 74 from a heart attack.

The '&' is called 'ampersand', not just the 'and' sign. So what's the '@' called?

Officially, this symbol is called "commercial at"

And why was it on a keyboard in the first place? first used in accountancy and trade i.e. x qty @ x unit cost, it featured on many mechanical tabulators and adding machines.

Some days I am too dense for words.

I have spent some time mildly wondering what Tomlinson had to do with the Death Ray and trying to work out if I was missing some joke or something.
