My laptop won't start. I get the message:-
:( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart.........
You can search on-line using
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
I have done that and I don't understand the responses. Any ideas, please?
I am technically ignorant, if that wasn't already obvious.

You have cocked up Windows install, one of the device drivers in this case.
you need to restart a last known good configuration

Thank Zero.
That link led me into System Restore and it seems to have worked.

I had to go out yesterday after doing the System Restore. When I turned it on this morning it presumably was busy downloading and installing Windows Updates. It then crashed again with a series of restarts and then it displayed the message that I got yesterday IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
I have now done another System Restore, this time going back to March 8th and I have turned off automatic updating. That seems to have worked, but for how long? The laptop is turned off.
It's running Windows 8.1. Any ideas, please?

One of the updates is corrupting your system, look in installed updates to see which one(s) failed, then see if it's actually one you need, if not "hide it". If there's several, you may need to try installing each separately till you hit the dodgy one, "hide it" then you should be able to reset automatic updates to "download but let me choose" which to install in future.
