Free PC program to arrange 3 photos as 1 - Focusless
We want to combine 3 digital photos (.jpg) into one - 2 above with one below - so we can upload it as a single file to one of the photo websites and get it printed as a canvas. (We've tried various sites which allow you to create a montage, but none of them seemed allowed us to do exactly what we wanted.)

Please can someone recommend a free program that will do this? Windows (7) or linux (Ubuntu).

Fotor?

You can do it with Gimp, but you will have to do some maths on pixels.

Thanks; I'll investigate.

Do you use it Z? I can select photos from my Dropbox account and they are displayed down the right hand side of the collage creator screen. But then when I try to drag one across onto the canvas, the photo changes to a box containing the text "image format is not supported". They are .jpg files.

The Fotor help lists all the RAW formats it supports, and states "Fotor supports loading all the picformat that Mac OS X systems supported". Surely that includes .jpg?

Mmm... if I try using one of the same photos in the Card creator, it seems fine.

I'll try Gimp as well

I think Gimp will work, but as you say SP it's a bit fiddly. Pity Fotor won't play ball as its collage creator looks ideal.

Can you not just cut/paste in something like Powerpoint or the Libre equivalent?

Probably, and I did consider that. But I'm not sure whether the result could be converted into something uploadable to the photo website for printing on canvas.

according to a 30 second test I just did, Powerpoint will save as .jpg.

Photoshop there are early editions (V5 that were given away free - bundled with other things) that will do everything you want including some smart manipulation to make everything look seamless.

Bit of a learning curve tho.

Yeah - I'd need something like that DIY collage page I'm using with Gimp.

Er.. like this in fact

Thanks, but I think I'll persevere (tomorrow) with what I've got before downloading anything else.

I've just done passport photos on MS Word, bit of a learning curve.

It lets you size and position them as you want.

I do yes, on mac. You have a collage function and you drag phtots onto the numerous pre defined collage templates.

Yes - that's what I'm trying to do, but attempting to drag the photos results in the photos being replaced by 'image format not supported'.

If you want a simple viewer that can save in just about any format, Irfanview is ideal - and it's free.

I use it to create icons for web sites.

Gimp turned out to be straightforward following the instructions in the link above, although required quite a bit of trial and error positioning and scaling to get what I was after.

Main problem was we want to use the Photobox website's canvas with 'wrap' format, where the image wraps round onto the canvas edges, but only want the photo background on the edges, not the bits of the subject.

Anyway, this is the result - our dog Dillon, trying to look cute:
