Using any means like password protected files, encrypted data drive etc.
In my main computer, I have encrypted data file partition using Truecrypt.
because it slows it down and complicates things. So why do it?
The slowing down is hardly noticeable in modern computers.
well i think the resounding answer is No.
I shall be fully encrypted by Midnight, trust me.
I have Truecrypt. But I only use it for devices I might carry with me, and even then only when the data is contractually or business confidential.
I don;t have any personal stuff that I bother to protect.
I assign passwords to key personal information, in Word and Excel, as others sometimes use my computer.
As an alternative to encrypting item by item, you can probably make things easier by encrypting the whole computer in one operation.
Not at home no.
Work computers had full disc encryption and some gizmo that encrypted data in transmission.
Gross overkill for 90% of stuff I did. The other 10% might have been correspondence with/about members of public and, while no threat to life, caused embarrassment or worse if lost. And of course there a data protection issues with stuff as simple as names/addresses.
