upgrading Andriod on an old phone - borasport
I have a 'surplus' mobile phone - a Samsung Galaxy Y GTS5363 running Android 2.3.6 - can anybody point me in the direction of a set of foolproof instructions on how to upgrade it to Android 4 ?

Google overloads me with multiple sites all of which talk of the dangers of bricking and the requirement for rooting, at which point they have comprehensively lost me.

I'd say don't bother with that phone - it's got a low spec and I doubt it would run a vanilla install of Android 4.x. But I would imagine Cyanogenmod released a ROM for this phone.

But it sounds like you're not that technical either. When I installed stock Android 4.3 on my Nook tablet the process was:

- Create a bootable SD Card with the necessary tools and ROMs
- Backup the existing ROM just in case using the SD Card you created
- Install the new ROM to the eMMC memory
- Install the boatloader for Cyanogen
- Reboot

Quite simple and I found step by step instructions and a list of files I needed.
