I contribute to various forums and this is the only one that you need to use Tinyurls on.
The others seem to only show a few characters of the website address but it is still fully clickable.
What makes this site different and can it be changed?

Good question. It's down to how Stephen Khoo as developed his forum. Maybe it's configurable and they decide not to allow it here. I'd say you cannot embed images but linked images are possible but just frowned upon by the mods.

I wonder how many other forums use Khoosys software?

Not the oddest thing in the world. A forum I used to visit got so paraniod about copyright issues and the forum being sued, all links to youtube were banned and in the end even in mentioning, it was refered to as 'the well known video sharing site'

None I've seen. Vbulletin seems most popular.

We only ask that you use tinyurl if you think the url you want to post is too long. Otherwise just post the normal link.

It's bespoke, rather than an 'off the shelf' product.

>> can it be changed?

I previously asked the powers that be in the other place but I can't remember what the reply was, or even if I got a reply.

All the answers above say why this site cannot handle it and why we should avoid long URLs.

There are so many on here as regular posters that I enjoy the responses.... so for this I could standup an alternative forum (NOT PLANNING IT!) and we'd all carry on.

Fact is this forum is as it is for now I should think.

I visit this site every day, and occasionally contribute. As i'm not computer savvy i don't know my URL from my TINYURL and don't particularly need to. What i do know is that this site is easy to follow & take part in (unlike all other forums i've looked at). So i say "if it's not broke don't fix it".

Frankly, unless needed, I hate TinyURLs as you can't see where the link is.

Generally I regard clicking I regard clicking on a link and finding it to be a Daily Hate link as something I'd not have clicked on if I knew the source.

Daily Hate is BBC slang for the Daily Mail and I regard them as only just a slightly more reliable source than the Daily Onion.

You can set up tinyurl to give you a preview of the link before it redirects you.

tinyurl.com/preview.php

Providing you don't delete your cookies periodically, then it should remember the setting.

That's rich coming from a bunch who've made a career of removing the typos from Grauniad articles.

Not that I'm excusing the Heil, but people who live in glass houses.....
