Handy tips for home computing - Iffy
Anyone got any simple but handy tips for home computer users?

One I came across recently was F11 in Firefox which gives a full screen mode.

Just the job for the netbook where screen real estate is at a premium.

Any more for any more?

Toggling between full screen and normal screen using F11 has always been handy.

If you wish to reduce or enlarge the font in your browser (IE or Firefox) used Ctrl and - or + as appropriate or Ctrl + scroll wheel.

Most people know if you hold down Shift after highlighting a file and then click on another file further on you can then Delete/Copy or whatever all the files involved.

Ones I use every day (on windows):

ALT and TAB to scroll through open windows
Windows Key and M to minimise all windows, add a SHIFT to maximise all windows
Windows Key and E to open file explorer
CTRL and F to open 'Find text' in most progams such as Office, Firefox, Adobe etc...

VR6,

Thanks - I've found a use for the Windows key at last.

Could someone tell me what 'Alt Gr' does, and that one next to it that looks like a page with a little arrow on?

the only tip you need to know

F1=Help

Alt Gr and number 4 pressed together give you the Euro sign... €

Windows key and tab switches windows in a quite sexy way (Vista and W7 only I think)

ALT + CTRL + 4 will give the € symbol too. So is ALT Gr = ALT + CTRL?

There's no shortcut for removing food and drink debris from the keyboard. What I need is the equivalent of self-cleaning oven liners.

Stop using the keyboard as a tea tray...:-)

Windows and tab doesn't do anything in the cheapo version of 7 loaded on my netbook.

You know in most browsers, if you want to go to a site which is .com, you simply type the site name then press Ctrl at the same time you hit enter, and it fills the www. & .com bits for you

:)

Firefox fills in the bits after a short delay, so no need to press Ctrl.

Nah, windows basic doesent have the aero features, mostly because netbooks dont have the graphics engine to drive it.
