Not sure how significant this is, but noticed this news item:

The advice is to disable Java until there is a fix.

Firefox 17 is now disabling Java by default and one has to click "allow" to run it on a web page.
I have now disabled it in the add-ons options until a fix is announced.

Overblown panic, as usual, you have to be tempted or drawn to dodgy websites for the exploit to be run.
|
A web site that you would not normally go to, one that you would go to because it has a appeared as a pop under, the type that would be prepared to host (or allow itself to be hijacked because they have crap security) the vulnerability.
Its not just floating in air, you have to go a place where its living.

My laptop updated itself last night.

NOT resolved, according to many sources - or rather, the specific issue was resolved, but huge problems remain. According to some, the patch issued (Java 7 Update 11) is in fact a mess.
The advice now is to disable Java for the foreseeable future.
