 New Post Markers - Pat
I'm finding I don't seem to get all of the red NEW post markers.

I noticed this morning that the forum had seemed particularly quiet overnight but when I looked there was a large number of threads which hadn't been flagged up.

Any chance of sorting this out as I don't want to miss anything!

Pat have you cleared your history and cookies out recently? If so this has the effect of not showing 'New Posts' for a while until it settles down again.

What web browser are you using?

I use a combination of IE8, Safari, and Opera and the new flags are there next time I visit.

However if you've not read all the new posts before leaving the site, they will get marked as read and only new posts from the point in time you logged out will be marked as new"

As Fullchat says, have you cleared your cookies out, or run something like CCleaner and not saved the C4P website in the options menu?

No, not since early December and I use IE8 for everything.

It's a mystery as sometimes I read a new post and the red marker remains showing as well.

I've noticed that new post markers will sometimes disappear before I've had a chance to read them. This morning, for example, they were all present and correct in Non Motoring, but on returning to my PC, having made Mrs CS a cup of tea, there were none to be seen in the Motoring section.

Not that it really matters, with day, date and time clearly shown.

Day and date are clearly shown, until you get a long thread and the new posts are slotted in anywhere.

Tooooo tedious to check that at 3am!

How long were you away from the PC? Were you logged out the forum upon your return? If so, then that's why there were no new markers as the system automatically logs you out after a period of time (can't remember how long)

Why does it do that? Why does it matter to anybody ?

Because it is a pain in the rear, Its quite rare for anybody to think its necessary these days.

How are you returning to the main forum after reading a thread?
IIRC you use the back button, which doesn't always remove the new marker from the thread you've just read as it doesn't always update the browser cache. Best way is to either click on the red left arrow next to the date /time marker, or click the forum name or C4P logo.

I always use the car4play logo now as the back button used to need 3 clicks or more to get it to work.
