 I've got a more pressing problem ~ ssvagent.exe - L'escargot
Every time I open Internet Explorer or a new website, I get a warning popup message asking me whether I want ssvagent.exe to make changes to my computer. The message says that the file origin of this is my hard drive. I suspect it's got something to do with the fact that I updated Java this morning. What should I do about it?

I started along that route but found that in All Programs I have Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer (64-bit) and I don't know which to choose.

Thanks again Focus. Eventually I tried starting at Step 1d, and although I couldn't follow the instructions to the letter (presumably because they were for Windows 7 and I have Windows 9) I managed to disable the Java thingies and the problem has gone.

No wonder you are having problems. You are on your own in the whole world with Windows 9. Not even Bill Gates has seen a copy. ;-)

Thanks John. I now have the latest version of Java.

Seems to my untrained eye both of Les's recent computer problems are something to do with Explorer.

Could be his version, the settings, or the way he's using it.

But the answer is obvious.

L'Es - if you don't fancy changing your browser/PDF reader I still reckon doing a right-click/'save link as...' in IE is worth a go, if you haven't tried it already. (It's 'save link as...' in Firefox; might be 'save target as...' in IE9? Something like that anyway.)

...just as a short term fix for downloading your Land Registry documents.

I did the Java update recently and did not realise it left an old copy, because of this chatter I removed the old one.

Why doesn't Java update and remove the old stuff like other updates?

I've now got Java(TM) 7 Update 4, but also JavaFX 2.1.0
Should I delete JavaFX 2.1.0?

Straight from the horse's mouth:

www.java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml

"Should I remove older versions of Java?
We highly recommend users remove all older versions of Java from your system.
Keeping old and unsupported versions of Java on your system presents a serious security risk."

Good question, but no answer from me!

My mistake. I should have said I've got Windows 7. The 9 was in my head because I've got Internet Explorer 9. I've withdrawn my head into my shell in shame!

D'oh!
