 Intel's new Ivy Bridge '3D' CPUs launched - rtj70
All CPU's are constructed in a 3d manner using lithography and etching etc. The use of 3d is a bit of marketing but does describe how the gates are different.

Should see a good speed improvement on many apps compared to Sandy Bridge and 22nm should cut power/heat... but the die shrink will mean it is harder to get heat out of the chip itself. Luckily it should produce a bit less heat.
