Horlicks to that ! Christmas is now but a fading memory and the days are getting longer. What's not to like?

Clear blue skies all day and a fantastic sun-set here.
As Percy says:
If Winter comes can Spring be far behind?

You can see Venus tonight...or is it Jupiter?

Could see Jupiter last night - assume that is what you saw. But I'm no astronomer. Star Gazing LIVE on BBC2 at 20:30 tonight.

Oh yeah, Brian Cox, my other hero ( after Ray Mears of course ) before Neil Oliver though.
Thanks for the reminder.

Load of cobblers, all self inflicted apart from the cold weather and you can dress for that. :-)

Lovely weather, getting fitter by the week as the light grows at 7am , and yoga has lots of nice young ladies to ogle work with on Sundays.
What's not to like at this time of the year? :-)

I worry about the prevalance of vegetarian yoga-ists. There does seem to be a connection between the two predilections. I'd be very wary personally about attempting to get my ankles behind my neck after a plate of sprout casserole in mixed company.

That wouldn't go down very well Humph.Preparing union soup tomorrow.Tromping away.>:)

You do make me laugh Dutchie....I love your broken English writing:)
I have a Dutch lorry driver friend who can't say W's, that is until someone annoys him, then he manages to call them what we're often called;)

Another famous recipe from the Caledonian Gordon Blue cook book?

Sometimes known as Carbon Dibackside.

pfd!. A driverless tranny van has rolled down the hill, demolished half our front garden wall and put a sizable dent in the back of our car!

Driverless?
Lud? LUD? Give us a sign !

Tee-hee... but reports of my demise are still premature.
Anyway I wouldn't do that to Roger who is honest and forthright in his views. I would have strained the swear filter myself in his place. Hope the phantom driver was insured!

And on Friday I was rear ended - good job I have a towbar! (the car, not me!) Not too bad though, I was hit at some velocity and it bent towbar so I couldn't get the spare wheel out. Solved by my local independent who took towbar off (he wanted nothing for doing it so I gave him a tenner for his 20 mins work)- we no longer use the car for towing. Was worried that car might have more damage and be a write off but he said only damage was to towbar/ball. It's a W reg Xantia Exclusive worth about £10 but still goes excellently, has all the extras (electric this and that, leather, heated seats, 6 CD changer etc) 45-50 mpg. But what would it cost to replace??
Good old Xantia!
So today was a good day!! Esp with sunshine and clear skies.
By the way, why is it still only getting light at 7-7.30 but lighter in evenings?

Because the days are getting longer at one end. :-)

Dunno I was out before the crack of dawn with the dogs, it was a stunning daybreak though. Light until 4.30pm - 5.00pm tonight.
|
|
Stunning sunset here - about 5
|
|
Sunrise 8:40, Sunset 16:15 here.
|
|
8.23am and 4.27pm at RAF Valley. The mountains wake up first around here !
|
Incredible but true! The shortest day was 21st Dec; where I am Sunrise was 0805 and sunset was 1556 = 7 Hrs 50 Min daylight
On 21st January it will be sunrise 0756 sunset 1633 = 8hrs 37 daylight. Sunrise has changed 9 minutes and sunset by 43 minutes. Where is Number Cruncher????
|
|
I think the sunset and sunrise times are basically sinusoidal, but not exactly in sync; the peaks aren't quite aligned. Tilt of the earth's axis, or something.

Almost certainly the runaway van belonged to an immigrant. Not insured probably.

Well I've been vegetarian for 20 years but can't see the point of yoga - does that disprove your theory ?
I'm no tub-thumper BTW, people can eat what they want IMHO, just I prefer not to eat meat or fish so wish to be granted the courtesy of being allowed to avoid them in my diet, in fact the notion of eating meat apalls me almost as much as diesel cabriolets and 1.6D V70s do (to add a motoring twist).
On the subject of Blue Monday, agree with posters about lengthening days etc, as we approach Chinese New Year in the Orient everyone is filled with hope for the coming year not gloom about winter etc - it helps that it's 19DegC and sunny I guess ;-)

A very good article on yoga and the elderly...

Ideally suited for our aged and infirm readership...

I take my Yoga on the side with a curry, preferably made from the flesh of some not so long dead four legged animal.
|
Anecdotal evidence is worthless, but nonetheless me old mum, who is now 83, has been doing yoga for 40 years. There is no doubt that not only does she look about 70, but is definitely way fitter than I am. I struggle to reach down to do my shoes up, get out of chairs without groaning and puffing, etc, never mind get to the top of the stairs in one go, but she has no issues at all, and still walks into town to do her shopping (about three miles) every week quite happily.
|
|
I used to do a few asanas when I was 'into' transcendental meditation, I got back into a full yoga workout about 5 years ago - wonderful stuff and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to remain supple into their twilight years.

>> preferably made from the flesh of some not so long dead four legged animal.
That's a shame, when there are so many flavoursome vegetarian options available. You really must give them a try - you may be pleasantly surprised.
But, of course, we know that you are just trying to get under our skin.

How did you get along with the TM, Dog?
|
>>How did you get along with the TM, Dog?<<
Well, we were both 'initiated' back in the late 70's and used to meditate twice a day but dropped out of it eventually, when we came back from Tenerife in the late 90's we bought a property (Warleggan) from a chap who just so happened to be a TM teacher (guru) so we got back 'into' it for a few years but dropped out again!
I think TM is a bit of a con TBH - sure meditation is worthwhile, but ya don't have to throw lots of wonga at it :)
Are you a veggie C/S? I went on bread & water from xmas until new years eve and have decided to stop eating decaying animal flesh from my 60th birthday in September, may even get back 'into' meditation as well (I should do!)
|
>>How did you get along with the TM, Dog?<<
I've not come across anyone before who has practised TM, so that was interesting.
I'm not actually a veggie, but I haven't eaten meat for about thirty years now and don't miss it in the least.
Bread and water - wow, that's some exclusion diet!
|
>>Bread and water - wow, that's some exclusion diet!<<
Well, the bread was usually toasted and came with a fried egg (organic of course)
The water temp was raised to boiling point and a tea bag was introduced for a 3 minute stay,
and I wont mention the mince pies!!
But it was all vegetarian - even the egg :)

Not at all surprised, always order a vegetable curry side dish to go with the flesh when eating with friends.

My speed-reading missed the penultimate word. You had me worried there, Zero.
