B~lieve it or not I couldn't play that (in 1080p) and my ISP have just charged me an extra fiver for going over my 10gb allowance, I wouldn't mind so much but I can only use the extra 5gb up until Thursday when my new billing period starts (crooks!)

Ironic old girl Mother Nature. Pretty place like that falls into the sea but she leaves Birmingham intact.
|
|
No buildings, animals, human beings or valuable agricultural land seem to have been involved in this spectacular incident

Less water pollution.

Where do you start?
|
>>Chelmsley Wood<<
Don't be too ard on em guv, The Bosch destroyed 6000 homes in that area in WW2 so new homes had to be built for the people 'on the quick'.
|
Reminds me of Marsden Rock which was a natural archway, not far off the coast of South Shields, Tyne and Wear.
The arch collapsed, and it was then decided to blow up the smaller pillar.
The media - including me - pitched up to watch the explosion.

According to some geologists the island of La Palma is overdue a massive landslide that will cause most of the island to fall into the sea and cause a tsunami to sweep across the Atlantic and inundate the Eastern US
Hope it holds off for a bit - off to La Palma in February

Sprechen sie Deutsch?
:)

No , nor Spanish - Will be interesting! Looks an intriguing place
|
All the Islands have their own particular flavour, I've been to Fuerte, Grotty, G/Canaria and of course Tenerife but never travelled to the smaller Islands,
I think you'll like La Palma CG, especially if you like getting out and about sight seeing/ walking/drinking good Coffee etc..
If I was going back to live out there, I still choose Tenerife though, I know the Island well + it's got the hussle & bussle to keep y'all from going ga ga :)

Time was when the airport could not handle large(ish) aircraft and one had to change in Madrid. Now there are direct flights I think tourism is doing well - it is an island I would like to visit! Debatable as to whether I'd be happy on those roads in a hire car! Are you going to relax or get out and about? I would think a coach tour would tick the boxes, someone else driving and a good view.
|
|
Driving will be half the fun. I suffer from motions sickness and 10 minutes in a coach would have me throwing up! Went to nearby La Gomera last year and the roads were actually very good, nothing like some of the Greek Islands. They actually have crash barriers! Mind you didn't get out of third gear in two weeks. Hire cars are fairly reasonable out there and have rented a house on the sunnier west coast so would be difficult to get by without one. I like to get out and about on holiday and do a bit of walking - easily bored sitting by a pool or on the beach.

I'm not defending the place, but it must be said most of your homes would be underwater if Birmingham fell into the sea like the OP's clip.
Roughly 500 ft above mean sea level
|
|
Airport elevation is 328ft but I get the point!
|
The M6 toll road was an astute move. If you're going to choose a location people will willingly pay to avoid...

It's funny that I have been to nearly every city in the UK with the exception of Birmingham. Never had the need and can't see one arising in the near future although I suppose I should check it out sometime

No need, you will go to your grave having missed nothing.
|
|
There must be something there - any residents care to enlighten me as to why I should visit.

well from that spot you could have a pint in the spinal tap and admire the canal basin... or have the reverse view from the James brindley.

There's a fair old collection of Pre-Raphaelite work in the art gallery, if that's yer bag:-

Also a very good symphony hall, the best UK ballet based outside London, an exhibition of some finds from the Staffordshire Hoard, fine Burne Jones stained glass in one of the churches and much else to keep one amused and entertained

>> the best UK ballet based outside London,
Best visit London then.

No thanks, Birmingham is nearer, cheaper and good enough for someone who doesn't much care for crowds and over-priced almost everything. I can't afford London theatre and ballet prices and so I make the best of cards I am dealt. You go where you like and I'l go where suits me.
|
|
well if second best will do.
|
|
Birmingham is what I like and can afford so it is where I go .

In spite of being equidistant rail fare to Brum is about half that to London. OTOH it's also easy to drive into. And while the London ballet might be better I doubt I could tel the difference.

Neither could I. One noisy and incomprehensible yawnfest put on by athletes in silly clothes is much the same as another in my book.
Apparently I am a philistine, or so herself tells me. I hate opera too. Perhaps she's right.

So glad there are others out there AC. My first wife used to force me to attend and sit through these interminable tortures. I'm pleased to say Mk2 spouse is much less demanding on that front anyway.
:-)

What destroys ballet for me is the sound of the dancers landing. They might be pretending to be dainty creatures but they sure land with a thump. Several landing together sounds like an elephant on the loose.
|
Wouldn't know, I used to listen to "Any Questions" on the earpiece of a little radio on her blind side..
:-)

If done right, landings are covered by the music.

But if you were in London, you would certainly know you were at the Royal Opera House, the moment you step over the classical portico you feel the entire history of performances and performers past and famous.
Altho the Birmingham Symphony hall is magnificent inside, its rather soulless. The less said about the Birmingham Hippodrome the better.
|
|
Birmingham is easily summarised. Just check the various Tourist websites for things to do and see in Birmingham.
|
|
I've done that - For tis size the city does seem to lack any draw that would make you venture there if you didn't live locally. I'm sure it has everything the locals want , shopping cinemas, theatres etc but there nothing unique that would make you say "I must go there and see that'', unless I'm missing something.

Some of the big hotels in Birmingham advertise only being an hour from London as a benefit.

Far as I'm concerned anything an hour (or preferably more) away from London or Birmingham is a benefit.
I can just about tolerate a visit to London if it can be alleviated by a detour to Chiswick to sample some of Messrs. Fullers' choice potions, but Birmingham is a miserable dump populated by miserable people.

Been there, seen it and its not.

eek
do you think it would breed with the clamshell from Bury St Edmunds
