 Another Bird Question - Bromptonaut
Group of around 5 large black birds. Soaring and thermaling, climbing but occasionally folding their wings and diving. No obvious call except one indistinct aukk that may have come from elsewhere. Corvid rather than raptor in appearance.

In mountain country I'd have said Ravens but this was in sunny Northants, well outside their advertised range.

Any other ideas?

whereabouts in northants? If its near rockingham/corby way they could be red kites.

(they look black from below against a bright sky) They are the biggest birds in the area. Tho they tend to be singular or in pairs.

Could well be ravens - They are spreading out over most of lowland England.

Ravens, although in a group of five? That I have never seen. Magnificent bird and when viewed from below with wings outspread look almost like a perfect cross.

Haven't eaten one.........................................yet!
