Freesat HD box - Robin O'Reliant
Anyone recommend a decent (but cheap) Freesat HD box? I've got non-subscription Sky at the mo so the dish is already in place and I'm quite happy with the DVD for the limited amount of recording we do so don't need a PVR, but I've heard how good HD is supposed to be so I think I'll give it a whirl.

Humax works well (and has iPlayer access via Broadband) but maybe a little pricey.

My critism is that to get into nonFreesat mode, (for viewing other channels on either another dish, or not in the Freesat grouping), is somewhat laborious via the setup mode and does not lend itself to non technosavy users.

Non technoosavy users a: wont know about other satellite groups, or out of area channels, b: wont need a way to find them.

I'm not sure you'll find much French content at 28.2° East (mostly Freesat, and $ky)

There's a list here, and they are generally accurate:

www.lyngsat.com/28east.html

My first glance only finds France 24 "English" on 11426 V

Motorise the dish and the World is your huître -

19.2° East, a bit of French in with the German stuff,
5° West, mostly French.

I already use 5West for F2 F3 and several others. What I have never understood is why the french who were early adopters of Sat TV , (both encrypted and free to air) and have now shifted many areas to TNT only, did not launch many of the free digital channels to sattelite. It could have saved them money on the transmitter roll out in the sparsely populated difficult areas.

I already run a steerable dish - but it cannot see 28 deg E, as when I installed it about 20+ years ago Sky was solidly positioned at 19.2! and building layout makes it difficult. Hence a 2 dish installation.

He won't get French channels on Astra 2 so there's little point.
