I should have added a Boom Boom lest it be mistaken for a typo :-)

Looking forward to this one - hope they have done the old girl justice

I've always been a 'keep an open mind' type of person....but... my concern is that her detractors will have used this as a chance to stick the knife in, which would severely irritate me...so..
...perhaps someone could report back once they've seen it...and let me know if it's balanced or not.
|
I intend to, and having seen numerous clips it looks like its more to do about her on a personal level. Well let you know
|
Anyway, the point is, how did one of the mods manage to post a new Topic about a maggie thatcher film in the motoring section?
And dont give me any old truck about minors of the morris persuasion
|
Fair point.
I think if the Iron Lady was in charge around here then someone would have lost their job over it :-)
|
In a dramatic U turn mods moved the thread to non-motoring.....mind you - U Turn, that's motoring isn't it ?
|
well there was one lady that was for turning then.

Cracking 3D Production - best I've seen so far - stunning SFX. Good production, poor storyline but an enjoyable movie all round. Good way to spend a couple of hours. Spot the much doffing to other SF epics including 2001 - too numerous to mention....worth the wait and a must to Alien fans !

Iron Sky look s like fun. Nazis have been hiding on the moon for the past 70 years and seek revenge.
Who could resist?

>>Nazis have been hiding on the moon for the past 70 years and seek revenge<<
S'funny, David Icke reckons Reptilians live there as well.

That film is available via Lovefilm on Blu-ray.
|
Yes - very limited cinema release. Has become a bit of a cult movie made on an extremely low budget

"worth the wait and a must to Alien fans!"
I had no idea about this until a few weeks ago I just caught about a second of a Prometheus trailer. There was no alien, no space jockey or any eggs but it instantly smacked of the Alien universe - the architecture, the environment, the hardware, the clothing.
Can't wait, hope I can dump the kids and sneak off a couple of hours this weekend. If it's good, I'll have to add to my Alien tattoos. Ridley Scott and James Cameron are on my dream dinner guest list.
|
Wot? No room at the table for Sigourney Weaver?
|
Sigourney's on my dream bed guest list.
|
Shot entirely using 3D cameras.

They do 3D porn yet Dave?

As if you don't know.

She's past it, regrettably, as is another of my "A" list of a few years back, Annette Bening.

Mind you - so am I.

Was in Shaftesbury last week. I didn't realise till then that Ridley Scott was responsible for the famous Hovis advert of boy on a bike made on Gold Hill.
Listening to Ridley Scott on the Kermode and Mayo program he stated that Prometheus was couple of films away from Alien so you can expect to see some sequels. He also came close to admitting that the 2D version was better than the 3D.
|
We saw Prometheus (in 2D) at the weekend. Enjoyable film for any sci fi fan, and the neat tie in with Alien adds to it nicely. That said, you could watch it quite happily if you'd never seen Alien.
It's a self contained story, which ties in with the Alien plot in a couple of areas. These are mostly around the derelict spacecraft and the big, dead humanoid alien thing sitting in the big gun with its guts blown out, that John Hurt and co stumble across at the beginning.
Good film though. SWMBO and I enjoyed it.

I shall wait until it's on Torrents! (As will I for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, of which there are only fakes and password protected ones showing thus far)
|
Saw Prometheus with youngest son who is a Ridley Scott fan and a film buff..
Both deeply disappointed: great effects (3D), but story line confusing and plot rubbish.
Overhyped junk imo: wait till it gets to TV : about 2014 is my guess..
|
The best film out at the moment is Ken Loach's "The Angels' Share". Don't miss it, classic Ken Loach drama and dark humour. It will make you laugh.
|
>> The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Not the best film by far.... not even average IMO.
|
Went to see MiB3 last night. Like MiB2 not a patch on the original, I guess because it was a fresh idea for a film and subsequent follow ups have lost that element.
However I digress.
I had the misfortune, ok not misfortune - bad choice, to see this in 3D. It was like one of those box theatres that kids had, where you slide cardboard characters in and out from the sides. There was no real depth just a series of planes, and turned it into a cartoon in effect (yes I know MiB was a comic). 3D was ok for Toy Story 3, a cartoon, but it fails miserable for human content.

I've never taken to 3D Zero, and avoided it really if there was a choice. I gave Prometheus a punt and it changed my view. Maybe that will be its lasting legacy (certainly not the screenplay anyway !) - go see it and see what you think.

" It was like one of those box theatres that kids had, where you slide cardboard characters in and out from the sides."
Known as the Viewmaster effect - very off-putting. I find 3D an irritating gimmick. Sitting there with two pairs of specs on watching a gloomy print (3D versions are around 15% darker than the 2D version) and being expected to pay more is not my idea of an improvement.
If the film is good 2D is fine if it's bad 3D won't help.
|
In an interview with a film critic I recall him stating that 3D was just a gimmick to get a couple more quid out of you.
He hated it and also commented that the uptake was slow, and after the initial interest cinema goers were reverting to standard formats
