Keep getting out of breath when typing - RattleandSmoke
Has anybody experience this? I had this on and off over the years, I get out of breath easily when typing or writing a lot on paper with a pen.

I don't think it is asthma or anything like that because I could walk 10 miles and not be out of breath at all. I recently walked up all the stairs at Convent Garden tube station and didn't get out of breath, yet I find even writing this short post exhausting.

I do get RSI so could it be apart of that?

Do you concentrate so hard on what you're doing you "forget" to breathe or get out of rythm - seriously a friend of mine does not.breathe when she walks up stairs. Resulting in her gasping for air when she gets to the top.

It doesn't always happen, I can type 1000 words and be fine, other times 50 is a pain. I did used to often get out of breath when doing written exams though, so I do wonder if it related.

It might be your corset riding up when you sit down....does it happen when you drive ?

I do get some chest pains when I sit down, only notice it in the car if I am in it for more than 40 minutes or so.

Chest pains? Maybe a trip to the doctors is needed. Whatever it is its better to be sure

Feels like a bruise, had it a few times on and off, it just goes and is not a problem for a few months. It feels like a minor strain but maybe that is why I am getting out of breath is something is pressing on something :(

Never made the connection before, I will go to docs on Monday

Sounds like some lung issue maybe a did you mention you had pluresy once .
Keep getting out of breath when typing - RattleandSmoke
Never had pluresy but not sure what you mean by that.

This seems to be my symptoms.

typing in bed now and I am not getting out of breath.

I've had this problem before but it always goes away hence never been to doctors about it before.

Get yourself checked Sheikha, if only to set your mind at rest. Sounds to me as if you are getting anxiety attacks, or something along those lines. Lygonos may be suggesting something like that.

But what we say here in response to what you say should be regarded as valueless in this context. Only a medic who has seen you can give something resembling a diagnosis.

I agree with AC and RV - advice face-to-face is likely to be most helpful in this case, so see a GP.

If something hurts/affects you at rest but you have no limitation under exertion it's likely muscular/tension/anxiety related.

As for fibromyalgia - it tends to be a fairly constant condition with a dozen or more tender points around the body.

Like it's sister condition M.E./Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the interweb is littered with charlatans who want your money - it doesn't sound much like FM from your description.

I'm not sure how to put this because it might be seen as too personal, but do you have, for example, trouble reaching your plate when at table? Its just that it sounds like your diaphragm is inhibited in some way:) Leaning back in bed seems to help.

Well been to doctors over the past week or so, but so many other things have happened, a 300 mile trip to the north Lakes yesterday due to yet another funeral.

Had a blood test last week and all the results came back normal, my GP thought I may have a peptic ulcer due to results from a previous blood test from a food intolerance.

Anyway I have a an ultrasound scan next week which should hopefully show what is up. From the symptoms I think I may have a hiatus hernia.

I am currently being treated for anxiety too as one of my GP thinks anxiety attacks are making the symptoms worse.

In the meantime I going to try and structure my working life better so its not all over the place.

Just out of curiosity Rattle, do you tend to burp/belch frequently?
Keep getting out of breath when typing - R.P.
My friend who bought the beige Skoda had one of those - don't let that happen to you.
Keep getting out of breath when typing - RattleandSmoke
I tend to pass wind a lot but always have done.

>> I tend to pass wind a lot but always have done.

That's John Willy Lees for you.

By all means go to the quack's if you're not right, but stop trying to self-diagnose using the internet - that way madness lies.

A while back I became convinced I had the symptoms of an incipient heart attack, persistent pain in left arm. Then I blew up my bike tyres and realised I'd strained myself doing the same thing a few days earlier.

Don't worry. Be happy. Walk a bit. Drink less. Try helping other people, it takes your mind off your own anxieties (which I know are real and can make you ill on their own). You'll feel better (I did).

>>I tend to pass wind a lot but always have done<<

Well, we all men do that, ladies don't though funnily enough ... reason I asked was because a friend of mine had a Peptic ulcer, and he was always be a'burping due to that fact.

You're a flatulent hypochondriac! That is all. Try a low FODMAP diet as that should reduce the wind.

Glad to hear you're making some progress Rattle, I hope you get it all sorted out very soon.

...Glad to hear you're making some progress Rattle...

Seems to me a sensible approach is being taken by both the medics and the patient.

Just seen this thread.

"I recently walked up all the stairs at Convent Garden"....

That's what did it, Rattle ; you need absolution from the Mother Superior. Nun shall sleep....

Anyway let's all hope you find the answer soon.

I was only earlier thinking to myself that we have not had a "Rattle Issue" for a while :-)

Hope you get sorted out soon

Out of curiosity, are you a normal weight for your height?

You do need to keep a firm grip on your sanity once you get too involved in mixing doctors with internet self-diagnosis, because you can easily start imaging things, and then diagnosing something else, then getting the doctor to test it, then more anxiety, more self-diagnosis, etc etc.

I know the feeling you describe, and in my case it was a combination of a bit of indigestion, sitting in a bent position didn't help it, and also concentrating so hard that I either forgot to breathe or only took occasional shallow breaths because of the constricted position.
Then throw in panic, and you are half way to having every illness you can find on the internet.

Good luck

Work with someone that has this issue – He can concentrate so much on something especially emails that he forgets to breath and you can see his face go red. Lost count of the times when I have told him to breath.

If you was a horse they would shoot you face it man your overweight, burning the candle at both ends, a junk food junkie, and spending far too much time on the internet!

Just a little update. The tests and scans haven't shown anything everything is normal. So the diagnosis is that I wasn't having mini panic attacks when typing without realising it, and the crushing pains were also caused by the anxiety.

Also been diagnosed with IBS and just got to keep on eye on things for now.

Since taking the tablets for just over two weeks I am slowly starting to feel a bit better, but I am starting a new college course next week that will be the real test.

I always have been a nervous wreck so I suppose it is hardly surprising but I just need to see how I go on.

The new course will give me some new focus in my life, something which has been missing for far too long :(.

Getting looking at that low fodmap diet I mentioned. Ideal if you have ibs as it cuts out foods that irritate.
