What bands have you seen live? - RattleandSmoke
I am bored so I thought I would come up with a list, but there is so many I have forgotten anyway some of the bands I remember:-

Blondie (my first real gig 2003)
The Killers [1]
The Kieser Chiefs [1]
Bloc Party [1]
The Futureheads[1]
Elbow - as a tiny support act
I am kloot - again a tiny support act
We Are Performance - A brilliant electro band
The Editors x 2
Goldblade (manc punk band, lead singer is John Robb) x 4
Morrissey x 4 - (need to see him again - he is my hero)
Foo Fighters
Queens of the Stone Age
New Order
Moby
Andy Rourke and Johnny Peculiar (as awful as it sounds)
The Lovers (an odd act above a local pub)
Micah P Hinson at my local irish club, he ended up being fairly well known.
Peter Hook in various different bands
Rancid X 3
The Sex Pistols (crap)
The Damned x4
The New York Dolls
Jaya the Cat
The Boys
Cliff Richard
UK Subs
NOFX
MXPX
Reel Big Fish
Sonic Boom Six
Big D
Cock Sparrer (crap)
The Beat (brilliant)
The Dead Kennedy's
Interpol (didn't enjoy as my grandad had died the week before, this was in 2005)
The Zutons (brilliant)
Alkaline Trio
Pennywise (brilliant)
The King Blues
Misfits (crap)
The Doves
Badly Drawn Boy (twice, once at my local church, the other at a support gig for the late Rob Gretton)

Bands I really want to see
Paul Simon
The Chameleons
James
The Cure
Echo and the Buneymen
Depeche Mode
Pulp
REM (not much chance now :( )
Fleetwood Mac
The Vaccines

I love acts such as the Guns and Roses, but I hate big stadium gigs, so I much prefer to see punk or indie acts with just a few thousand in the crowd.

Rarely get to see bands these days the vast majority of those bands I have see in my younger days. Missed out on both the Clash and Ramones by just a couple of years :( I only really started going to gigs in 2003 and I suppose the only musical wave I can really say I was a part of was the mid naughties indie boom.

Don't get any of this modern dup step crap.

Edit also can you notice something slightly odd that list?

Also the Buzzcocks I have seen three times.

Not so much as I've seen... but I made sure we didn't get that local, unknown bad to play for us at the University. Oasis. Hindsight etc.

Now it's where you've seen some acts vs the acts too. Saw Deacon Blue in Frankfurt. But I also saw Toto!... not all down to me! But I did like Africa as a song.
What bands have you seen live? - RattleandSmoke
A lot of the bands I have seen are because mates wanted to see them or because they were support acts.

The only time we really got lucky was the Killers though, we never imagined how big they would become.

Never seen Oasis, but the typical audience an Oasis gig attracts put me off.

Good grief Sheikha, you sure do love your sounds and venues. Of course it's always better live all other things being equal, and if the amplification is good and properly set up, and if the group is all present, no more stoned than necessary and in a good carpkicking mood...

Sometimes, I notice, a big-name band whose music one has heard on elaborately engineered albums can sound a bit thin in the flesh.

I had a friend who was a big-name African musician. He always sounded better live because he insisted on supervising his own band's recording sessions and surreptitously turning all the controls up to maximum all the time. I saw him do it, and I saw these high-price sound engineers tearing their hair out over it too. So his records were never as good as his live gigs especially in his own club down there in the dark continent.

Some of them are pretty good all the same.

Most of the trad jazz bands of the late 1950s and early 1960s!

I was too stoned on acid & pot to remember, although Pink Floyd comes into the equation, naturalmente.

Rattle,

You saw Cliff Richard live.....!

Acker Bilk, way back in the 60's.

Extraordinarily enough, I can contribute a microcomment to a music thread.

Bruce Springsteen, and it was very scary.

What bands have you seen live? - FocalPoint
I saw Acker Bilk a year and a half ago at the Grassington Festival - yes, he's still out there! Breath support's bit dodgy these days, though.

The last live concert I attended as audience (as distinct from those I have performed in) was the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment at the Queen Elizabeth Hall a few weeks ago - does that count? Or are we not talking about that kind of music?

started - with Thomas Dolby (v.good) ,Queen and Bruce Springsteen (both amazing - the later on 4th July !) Dire Straits and Prince - slightly disappointing, Drum theatre amongst other at a Greenpeace gig - had a ticket for Meat Loaf , but couldn't get there - so not too many gig.
But live musical I remember more fondly than any concert was "The Return to the Forbidden Planet " - now that was one hell of a show and one I'd see many times again, should it reappear
What bands have you seen live? - spamcan61
I went to over a thousand gigs between 79 and 87 so I won't even try and list them...

Mostly NWOBHM, punk, goth or prog rock.

Ideal venue size 3-500 IMHO.
What bands have you seen live? - Mike Hannon
Adge Cutler and the Wurzels (1966)
Alan Price Set (1969)
Alan Price and Zoot Money (1999)
What bands have you seen live? - Crankcase
Allegedly one of the trumpet players with Alan Price said it was the worst job he ever had - all he ever had to do on any Alan Price piece was go "ba ba doo doo". Over and over. With maybe a "diddle dee dee" at the end if he was lucky.

Of course, perhaps he wasn't a very good trumpeter.

What bands have you seen live? - RattleandSmoke
I have probably been to around 200, really wish I had kept all the tickets, most the bands though are truly forgettable. I cannot believe I have forgotten to mention Rancid on that list, seen them three times.

I much prefer smaller gigs too, it is partly the thrill of thinking one day these could fill out stadiums. Normally they go the other way but every so often the band makes it big, sometimes such as the Kings of Leon they sell out and become crap.

I saw quite a few bands go from the local pub to 500-1000 capacity venues, and the other way; Marillion (Presumably not your cup of tea Rattle) were the only band I saw saw literally go from my 'local' pub to Wembley Arena.
What bands have you seen live? - wotspur
forgot to mention Roger Walters x 2 and Pink Floyd x 3
What bands have you seen live? - Roger.
I "lost" Acker Bilk after he went mainstream with his clarinet solos for the pop market.
In the early days with the Paramount Jazz Band they were an absolute sensation.
I heard them first at the Jazz Club held at the Trent Bridge Inn in Nottingham.
I was also lucky enough to hear the Ken Colyer Band live, at the Nottingham Arts Ball, one year.

>> Acker Bilk, way back in the 60's.

Acker Bilk together with Humphrey Lyttleton at Derngate, early 2007 I think.

Pretty short list otherwise:

Camel
Mike Oldfield (Platinum tour 1980)
Rick Wakeman (live performance of 1984)
The Spinners (northern folk band not the Detroit chappies)
Capercaillie (twice)

and missed Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel at the monster venue of Harpole Scarecrow Festival.

What bands have you seen live? - Iffy
The most memorable gig I went to was The Who at Charlton football ground.

Proper band who knew how to perform.

Roger Daltrey managed to make a connection with the audience, despite the size of the venue.

Townshend didn't smash any guitars, although he pogoed a bit, wrapping the guitar lead around his legs.

Keith Moon kicked his drum kit over at the end of the set.

John Entwistle, on bass guitar, played standing almost motionless in a green glitter suit.

Odd people, bass players.

Late eighties at Milton Keynes Bowl.

Headlining were Bon Jovi

Support bands included Skid Row, Europe, and a female rock band who I can't recall the name of other than they might have been called Vixen.

Yep, that'd be Vixen. The only all female rock band I recall seeing were Rock Goddess, at the not very salubrious Bouncing Ball Club, Peckham. Here they are in all their glory at my favourite venue, the marquee club, Wardour St.:-

They were even scarier in the flesh (..not in the nip, for the avoidance of doubt)

PAt's post reminds me I also saw Lindisfarne at Cardiff Uni c1981. SU performance but I went as a guest of my sister who was a student at the time.

>> The Wurzels *blushing now*

My dad was a fan years ago, as was an ex next door neighbour. In fact the neighbour was fanatical about them.

IIRC, they played somewhere at an event in Hungerford (football club, or some kind of social or working mans club?) that the local farm workers and wives occasionally went to. Other less named bands played there too. One that sticks in my mind was Taurus.

>> Townshend didn't smash any guitars

I saw The Who - whose early career was accompanied in London by what looked like a concerted, organized graffiti campaign - live at the Festival Hall, in a double bill with Chuck Berry. The Who won the wrangle about who was going to go on last, but they regretted it I reckon.

Chuck Berry put in his usual electric performance with the scrappy locally-hired band he always made do with, being the stingiest and most curmudgeonly great r'n'b genius you could imagine. When the Who came on for their set, Berry's leather-jacket-clad rocker fans stayed down at the front of the room under the stage and threw cigarette ends and stuff at them. Pete Townshend lost his temper and didn't just bounce his guitar - it made quite a good noise actually - but hurled a mike stand, a dangerously heavy and jagged object, into the audience. The front of the theatre erupted in scuffles between the rockers and the rather elderly security.

It were lovely. But I have been in the same room as Pete Townshend, backstage or in his recording studio, three or four times and offstage he is a thoughtful, quiet, taciturn person.

My ex-father in law was a director of RCA/BMG records, so we would often get tickets. We saw Take That 4 or 5 times, and they were extremely good. Sure, the audience girls screaming was somewhat tiring, but the band made up for it.

We saw had so many tickets for various concerts, we started to get a bit blase about it all.

The father in law also owned a recording studio at Great Linford Milton Keynes, and had many bands staying. Zig Zig Sputnick (or something) where one of the more memorable groups, if only for the amount of damage they did to the games room and accomodation.

Also saw ABBA many years ago at wembley. Again, very good.

I forgot - I once had to interview the group (or was it just two of them?) who used to sing Pictures of Matchstick Men. Status Quo, that was them - I now remember. It was during their 25th anniversary tour.
The editor picked me for the job because he said I wouldn't bring any preconceptions to the assignment. I had to borrow the Status Quo Annual from a mate and mug up before I went.
What bands have you seen live? - MD
The Kinks at Brunel uni. Don't like crowds.
What bands have you seen live? - Focusless
Most bands I've seen were at Leeds Uni in the 80s. These are the ones I remember, which I hope is most of them:

Amazulu
The Long Ryders
Suzanne Vega
The Alarm
The Pogues
The Mission
The Wedding Present
Everything But The Girl (v. boring, everyone just sat on the floor)
Nik Kershaw: cancelled due to fire alarm IIRC :(

Then went to Reading Festival twice in the early 90s I think, just after it went indie; acts included New Order and Buzzcocks, but I'm struggling to remember any more. I'll check my programmes when I get home, if I can find them.

Not much since then (at Reading Hexagon):

Nanci Griffith x2?
Jools Holland

and with Mrs F:

ELO 2 x2 (Reading & Oxford)
Paulo Nutini (Hammersmith O2)

These days I take tissues so I can stuff bits in my ears; it's always too loud :)

The irony of the Smiths is always lost on southerners :).

Always amazes me how excited people get at Smiths discos. Always amazes me how brilliant they are too. Every single song they play written by Morrissey.

Had to miss last weeks as I was too busy with work.

Jealous you've seen Simon and Garfunkel though, but I do hope to get to see Paul Simon one day. I wouldn't mind seeing Human League either.

>> The irony of the Smiths is always lost on southerners :).

There is no irony there.

Morrisey is a nasty nasaly boring monotone singer, who has a hugely inflated idea about his own talent and importance in this world. As for the lyrics.

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But Heaven knows, I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job and then I found a job
And Heaven knows, I'm miserable now

In my life, why do I give valuable time
To people who don't care if I live or die ?

Two lovers entwined pass me by
And Heaven knows, I'm miserable now
I was looking for a job and then I found a job
And Heaven knows, I'm miserable now

Seems awfully familiar, someone who is just not happy in whatever they do.

That can of course be productive. Look at Charles Schulz, who was unhappy all his life, even though as the creator of Peanuts he had no need to be. But he strongly felt that if he ever was actually happy, then he wouldn't have been able to do his cartoon, which was the most important thing in his life (though he was married, twice, with kids.)

So at least for one artistic type, unhappiness was the wellspring of his success.

Sorry, that's almost certainly thread drift.

Originally thought when I looked at this thread, 'oh, not that many, really.' and then realised it's quite a few so here goes:-

Queen, at Southend College just as they released their first single 'Keep Yourself Alive', had to order it from the record shop, still got it!
Groundhogs
Pink Fairies
Roy Harper's Trigger
Black Sabbath
Black Oak Arkansas
Sutherland Brothers & Quiver
Status Quo
Vinegar Joe - Elkie Brooks was lead singer in those days
Deep Purple
The Faces
Golden Earring
Sailor
Strider
Lindisfarne
Steeleye Span
Fairport Convention
PFM
Eddie and the Hot Rods - too many times to recall, mates brother is 'Eddie'
Doctor Feelgood
Kursaal Flyers
Procul Harem
The Blockheads
Wilko Johnson
Paul Young
Edgar Winter Band with Johnny Winter
Barclay James Harvest
Canned Heat
Blues Band
Glitter Band
Madness
Simon and Garfunkel
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
George Michael
Spandau Ballet
Acker Bilk
Kenny Ball
Cy Laurie
Ken Collyer
Digby Fairweather
Free
Amy Wadge
Wake the Witch
Automatic Slim

No doubt more I've forgotten in the drunken, smoky haze of my irresponsible youth!!!!!!

Springsteen, George Michael, Spandau Ballet, Simon & Garfunkel are the only ones I've seen in a stadium.

Was lucky that back in the early/mid 70's the Kursaal at Southend was on the tour itinerary for bands like the Faces so saw lots there.

Most of what I see these days is at a local club, Club Riga, which gets lots of famous faces like Peter Frampton, Paul Young, Andy Fairweather-Low, Roy Mette, Wilko Johnson and Fish popping in for a few ad-hoc gigs. Lovely and atmospheric......

What bands have you seen live? - Harleyman
Specific concerts;

Motorhead (twice)
Van Halen... back in 1980. Much to the chagrin of a subsequent girlfriend who was a big fan, that being the year she was born!
Hayseed Dixie.... utterly mad, very earthy, but brilliant musicians.
Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings.... really went to see Albert Lee and wasn't disappointed.
Willie Nelson.... excellent.
Mavericks
Bruce Springsteen
Shaking Stevens and the Sunsets; this before he achieved chart success, in his early days he was absolutely brilliant. Various others including Freddy Fender and Matchbox at Tumbledown Dick's Farnborough in my rock'n'roll Army days.

Festival; the first Monsters of Rock at Donington, 1980. Rainbow's last gig, supported by Saxon, Judas Priest and the Scorpions.

Away from the big stage; George Chisholm, who used to guest with friends at my local pub in Letchworth. Still excellent and a witty entertainer in his later years though his health was by then poor.

One I'd like to see and never will..... the Highwaymen (Willie Nelson,Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson)

One I had many chances to see (at Nottingham Theatre Royal) and to my eternal regret never did..... Roy Orbison.

Still on my wishlist; Bob Seger and Joe Cocker.

And the best by far..... The Notting Hillbillies at Derby Assembly Rooms, 1994. The full Hillbillies set followed by a good hour of Dire Straits stuff in a relatively intimate atmosphere. Sublime.

I think many of us die-hard headbangers age into people like Bryan Adams, Bob Seger and Joe Cocker.

I forgot Rod Stewart, five times over the years, how could I forget that pink, shiny, tight, jump suit he wore:)

Also Rainbow at the Granby Halls in Leicester and Gary Moore there too.

And Thunder.

But stick that song on in an indie club in Manchester and it will fill the dance floor, with loads of people drunkingly chanting out the lyrics.

That is my point, the same as Joy Division. A scouse band wrote a song about it.

The Wombats Lets Us All Dance to Joy Division

m back in Liverpool,
And everything seems the same,
But I worked something out last night,
That changed this little boys brain,
A small piece of advice,
That took twenty-two years in the make,
And I will break it for you now,
Please learn from my mistakes,
Please learn from my mistakes.

Let's dance to joy division,
And celebrate the irony,
Everything is going wrong,
But we're so happy,
Let's dance to joy division,
And raise our glass to the ceiling,
'Cos this could all go so wrong,
But we're so happy,
Yeah we're so happy.

So if you're ever feeling down,
Grab your purse and take a taxi,
To the darker side of town,
That's where we'll be,
And we will wait for you and lead you through the dancefloor,
Up to the DJ booth,
You know what to ask for,
You know what to ask for.

Go ask for Joy Division,
And celebrate the irony,
Everything is going wrong,
But we're so happy,
Let's dance to Joy Division,
And raise our glass to the ceiling,
'Cos this could all go so wrong,
But we're so happy,
Yeah we're So happy.

So let the love tear us apart,
I've found the cure for a broken heart,
Let it tear us apart,
let the love tear us apart,
I've found the cure for a broken heart,
Find More lyrics at www.sweetslyrics.com
Let it tear us apart,
(Let it tear us apart)
So let the love tear us apart,
I've found the cure for a broken heart,
Let it tear us apart,
(Let it tear us apart)
So let the love tear us apart,
I've found the cure for a broken heart,
Let it tear us apart,
Let it tear us apart,
Let it tear us apart.

Let's dance to joy division,
And celebrate the irony,
Everything is going wrong,
But we're so happy,
Let's dance to joy division,
And raise our glass to the ceiling,
'Cos this could all go so wrong,
But we're so happy,
Yeah we're so happy,
So happy,
Yeah we're so happy,
So happy,
Yeah we're so happy.

And the lyrics are so true. Even in the rock club (which is mostly heavy metal like Pantera/Korn etc) when they play Joy Division the room lights up.

I was at the Milton Keynes shopping centre when Cliff Richard was recording a video. I think it was Wired for Sound.

Feck that is a very impressive list :) I would love to see Metalica but too skint and I hate stadiums.

White Snake might be doable but don't think they are still around.

Do want to see Iron Maiden one day, they are probably my favourite metal band or although its more classic rock really.

As much as I am a fan of Lemmy I never really got Motorhead but I do like some of their stuff.

I saw Iron Maiden maybe half a dozen times, 3 with Paul Di'Anno and 3 with Brucie, I liked the earlier, punkier stuff with Paul Di'anno more than the later stuff, which does tend towards classic rock.

I've never been a big Motorhead fan, only saw them live once, around 1983, wasn't a good gig. Lemmy and Brian Robertson weren't getting on too well.

in my latter days of school, and the early to mid '70s, I was just too drunk on cider & Guinness to remember.
I think I suffered permanent brain damage at the Edgar Broughton Band shows.
When I (slightly) sobered up, I remember Yes, Quo, AC/DC, PF & Camel, Lindisfarne, Floyd, Cream, Queen in their very early days. Then I got drunk again worrying about the mortgage.

>>Well they certainly played there in '72:-<<

72 was it, I'd quietened down by then :)

Ann's work colleage introduced me to Wishbone Ash, I'd never really come across them before,
but he did me a couple of 'tapes', and I was hooked!

I would say 2005 was my peak year of seeing bands. Very exciting time to be going to see bands.

Well I think I'm 20 years older than you, and my peak year was probably '85 so there's a pattern there.

I have to confess to seeing Cliff Richard twice as well. :-(
What bands have you seen live? - Zero
I have done many bad and foolish things in my life, but I am pleased to say, I have never seen Cliff Richard

I was very young - apart from a third trip to see him in Heathcliff - I reckon I was the only chap there...

I make that three times then RP. Oh dear. There must be something we can do. Maybe the elephants will get you first.

Only one, I think. Unless you can call orchestras ' bands '.

The Beatles. First Manchester concert about '63. Didn't go to see them specifically, I was a Police Cadet and begged the Super to be allowed to go ' to help keep order ' 'cos I knew there would be hordes of teenage girls screaming and fainting......I was right !

Very Young! I forgot! My mum took me to see the Dave Clarke 5 in Southend. Must have been about 1965/6/7 or so. Thats where I got my love of cuban heeled boots....

I think that would have been 11th May 1964 at the Southend Odeon.

>>>>The most memorable gig I went to was The Who at Charlton football ground.

1976? I was there too! Brilliant performance by Daltrey & Co but for me Sensational Alex Harvey Band stole it. Lost my voice by the end of Delilah.

Iffy, were you the bloke in front of me who relieved himself into an empty tin of Carlsberg Special Brew and launched it spinning towards the stage? Hell of a throw!

Wow - I was 9!

On the 7th May they were at Stockton on Tees - Here's the billing. Quite a line up. You can add some more bands to your list!

Amazing what you can find.

Wow - thats right - I remember the kinks and the Hollies now as well!

Blimey - Beat that rattle, three top name bands by the age of 9
What bands have you seen live? - missyMe
Definitely a topic to get me out of lurking status...

Have seen too many to list - my god parent's son was in a lot of bands and now plays for Fairport Convention and I got taken to music festivals since before I can remember. I'm off to All Tomorrow's Parties music festival in two weeks and went to Bestival earlier this year with my two kids in tow. I even sometimes manage to blag a photo pass and one of my favourite ever memories is of being in the photo pit for the Yeah Yeah Yeah's and Karen O grabbing my camera lens and spraying champagne everywhere. Also of Todd Trainer from Shellac

Some of my better memories include:

Radiohead
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Wedding Present
The Cure
Mudhoney
The Jesus Lizard <---- some stranger tweeted about me that if they hooked me up to the national grid, I'd solve the worlds energy crisis at that one.
Lightning Bolt
Afrirampo <---- Japanese noise pop girl band - totally bonkers
Sonic Youth
Yuck
PJ Harvey
Queen
Sun Ra Arkestra
The Melvins <--- the two drummers are something else
Zu
Autolux
Deerhoof
Bjork
Shellac
My b***** Valentine
Buzzcocks
A Place to Bury Strangers
Public Enemy
Beardyman
The Breeders

Really looking forward to seeing Battles play with Gary Newman in a few weeks. Had tickets to see John Spencer Blues Explosion last year at Christmas and couldn't get there because of the snow - luckily they are touring next year so going to try to get to see that one.

Also looking forward to seeing Wild Flag who have some of the line up from Sleater-Kinney

Another great memory is of managing to find myself again in the photo pit at the feet of Todd Trainer of Shellac - he's a gift to photograph -

photo is here: twitpic.com/2s8x6r It was a few days into the festival and one of the first bands of the day so I had that spaced out unreal feeling where the world starts to focus in on only the moment and everything else disappears.

What bands have you seen live? - Bobbin Threadbare
Rattle - Goldblade, in your original list (I've seen them twice) are not really Mancs. They're from Thornton Cleveleys on the Fylde coast in actuality. How very punk!

I felt I had to join this thread as a lot of you have similar musical interests to me.

Over the past 10 years I have seen:
Punk-ish:
Alkaline Trio, Blondie, Blink 182, Less Than Jake (several times), Offspring, Mad Caddies, Goldblade, Misfits, Stranglers, Letters to Cleo, Bad Religion, Black Flag, Klinik, Pixies, Placebo, Sick of it All (unfortunately), NoFX, Zebrahead, The Living End, Sum 41, Iggy and the Stooges and Kaiser Chiefs.

I am hoping for Rancid tickets for next year!

Metal/rock-ish:
Airbourne, Alice Cooper, Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Paul Rodgers, Def Leppard (a good number of times!!), Twisted Sister, Megadeth (about 7 times), Metallica, Iron Maiden, Foo Fighters, Judas Priest, Limehouse Lizzy (great tribute act), Whitesnake, Motorhead, Disturbed, Incubus, KISS, Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Aussie Pink Floyd, Mr Big, The Darkness, Thin Lizzy, Duff McKagan's Loaded, 5 Finger Death Punch, Velvet Revolver, Cheap Trick, Clutch, Apocalyptica, Rammstein, Ash, System of a Down, Marilyn Manson, Turbonegro and the Killers.

I think now I have to see Motley Crue and ZZ Top.

Weird ones: I have seen Goldie Lookin' Chain. I don't even know why. It must've been at a festival.

There have to be more than this; there's always support bands!
What bands have you seen live? - missyMe
@Bobbin - deeply envious of your seeing The Pixies. They are one of my favourite bands of all time.
What bands have you seen live? - Duncan
Louis Armstrong in, er, 1956?

I never thought that I would contribute to a thread like this!
What bands have you seen live? - CGNorwich
One of the fews acts in this thread that I would have liked to see. To be honest I haven't even heard of most of them :-)
 What bands have you seen live? - JohnM{P}
In recent years:
Al Stewart - still excellent, even though now an acoustic set
Fleetwood Mac
Deep Purple
Dave Edmunds (three times, once as guest with JoolsH) - wish I could have seen him in his hey-day!
What bands have you seen live? - MD
Dave Edmunds. A brilliant Guitarist almost rating with Albert Lee and far better than Clapton.
What bands have you seen live? - AshT
A selection of the bigger names I've seen, in no particular order. Used to go to gigs several times a month, but I'm lucky to see three or four a year now.

Queen
Pink Floyd
Motorhead
Runrig
Iron Maiden
Hawkwind (20+ times)
Big Country
Fairport Convention
Jesus & Mary Chain
The Wurzels (post Adge Cutler)
New Model Army
Bothy Band
Fields of the Nephilim
Deep Purple
Pogues (with Shane McGowan)
Sisters of Mercy
Capercaillie
Half Man Half Biscuit
Jethro Tull
The Mission
Levellers
The Men They Couldn't Hang (most recent one)

One of the most memorable gigs was the Pogues; Shane McGowan came on stage with a full bottle of whisky. By then end of the night it was empty, but he didn't miss a beat and led a fantastic show.

Very excited as my press accreditation came through today for All Tomorrows Parties A Nightmare Before Christmas this coming weekend. Am going as official Guardian photographer. 46 bands on the line up - don't think I'll quite be managing to photograph all of them.

V excited as Jazz legend Pharoah Sanders is playing as well as Battles and Gary Newman - should be fun :D

A new band to add to my list, the Chameleons, saw them last night and what a brilliant gig. One of Manchester's best kept secrets.

They have been around since before I was born, but in the UK they are not that well known outside of Manchester, they have a much bigger following in the USA.
