Lumiere festival in Durham - Snakey
Anyone else visit this? I live around Durham and went to it in 2009 and it was excellent.

This time round it was an example of how not to organise a festival! Great displays but useless 'security' teams trying to implement a chaotic one way system made the whole thing a farce.

At one point people were being 'kettled' in the market place and it began to get quite frightening for young kids as the crowd ground to a halt. I eventually guided my family out of the mess by ignoring the single figure IQ security staff and going the 'wrong' way.

Shame really - it was a great idea in principle.

Yes, the handling left a lot to be desired.

I don't even believe there was a need for crowd control - in the area where it was busy and people were ignoring the stewards, people made they way past each other quite easily. The assumption that we were all brain dead sheep and needed to be pushed along made my blood boil!

If they do it again they should either a) have no control at all or b) put a proper fenced one way system in place

I saw 2 plod on the night, but at least 40 stewards!
