 A Monopoly moment - Iffy
A letter arrived from nPower this morning.

They tell me for the last four years they have failed to apply my direct debit billing discount.

I'm to be paid a small matter of £428, made up of £100 a year, plus a sum 'in lieu of interest'.

It's not a crummy bill credit, either, it's cash into the bank account.

Reminds me of the 'bank error in your favour, collect £10' Community Chest card in Monopoly.

That big new telly might arriver sooner rather than later.

Any other unexpected windfall stories?

At home years ago we considered the £10 was a measly amount so changed it to £500 instead.
Also all the money collected in fines went under Free Parking, and went to whoever landed there first.
Also, just remembered, the £200 for passing Go was doubled to £400 if you actually landed on it.

Apparently lots of families make changes to Monopoly rules, the Free Parking one being the commonest. Games with other people always had heated arguments, because we all insisted "our" rules were the real ones.

So add it to the money paid for the netbook and buy a Macbook Air 11.6" :-) It is fate.

Not of any great note myself, but the article below tickled me:

Went into the Virginmedia shop at lunchtime to see about one of them new fangled Tivo boxes. Bad news, says the operator, we can't install until 5 January. However there is good news - we have been overcharging for your broadband, so have the next two months gratis to catch up. Happy bunny here.

I might have a look at the TIVO as well, Alistair. VM have called me three times about getting my costs down but I think they've been ringing from India and they don't seem to realise it's the middle of the night over here !

I'll call in the shop, I think it's on Market Street ?..Next trip into town on a job.

We joined the AA once, three months later I think it was Centrica (not sure) took them over, and as a member we got a windfall of £200.

Ted not sure if there is on Market Street, but certainly one in the Arndale in the new bit, what used to Cannon Street bus station.

SWMBO was working for Centrica when they sold the AA on again. To say the workforce was kicked in the privates would be an understatement.

I'd look on the support forums before deciding. Seems to be either working ok or it will be a complete bag of infuriating crap that deletes recordings or crashes continually or both.

Also if you want to plug it into a normal amp for sound you can't. No rca phonos. You'd have to buy a dac to get sound on it.

Current customers are also charged £50 installation for it! New customers get them free.

Tivo has optical out. Should have thought most amps have optical in.

Not quite on the same scale, but we treated ourselves to a trip to Pizza Hut this evening (mainly because I've been deplastering the lounge today and it's a bit of a mess).

Ordered a regular Farmhouse (ham & mushroom) deep pan, but the first one brought over was a Hawaiian - waitress explained they'd got the order wrong, but rather than just bin it, I could have it as well, no charge. Result!

Although by the time I'd eaten my share of the sharing cheesy nachos, and a bowl of salad (free with any main course), and the 2 pizzas, I'd probably eaten more than was strictly necessary. Still, waste not want not :)

Mrs F's fault - when it looked like I was struggling after the first pizza, she claimed I was 'not the man I used to be'. What else could I do?

I have very few qualms, these days, about asking for a doggy bag - in reality the dog rarely gets a look in.

I can still remember my mum's co-op number. Had to chant it to myself when the dog and I were sent on an errand.

So can I remember - Must have been the first thing I was taught. Both mum and dad worked for the co-op.

The used to belong to a sort of loan club run by the co-op in which you could borrow vouchers for use in the co-op and pay back weekly. Change from the vouchers was given in tokens

National Valuation Office...or something similar, wrote to me in my London house and said I was in the wrong council tax band...(heart sank, thinking it was in too low a band). Read it through to the end and it was the other way around, I was in too high a band.

It was relevant to the previous 12 years...and i'd lived in the same house for....12 years 3 months...yee hah, local council had to pay me £1,700

Around eight months ago, someone left a brand new iPod Touch 16gb on my bus. I handed it in thinking that the owner would be along shortly to collect it. Six months later, I was asked to nip up to the office where they presented me with said iPod. Incredibly, it hadn't been claimed so it was mine!
