Has anyone had one of these done in the course of their work.
If so, what was your opinion of Jung's typology?

Both self and Mrs F have experience of this and similar systems being introduced to the workplace as training/seminars. The Jung profiles are usually quite accurate but in reality rarely tell people things about themselves they/others didn't know already.
For me the telling thing is I've never known the results to change the way people behave in the workplace... conventional good management skills seem to be far more important in shaping people... as far as you can ever shape people anyway.
|
BTW you can do a basic version of the test here...
www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp
Gives the results without the need to input a mail address or give personal details so worth giving it a go if you have 10mins spare.
Also gives you some comparison famous people who match your profile. Mine include Stephen Hawking, Andrew Grove (Intel founder), Guy Kawasaki (Apple)... fair enough.

Good lord, In 36 years of corporate life, I did more of these things than you can shake a stick at, usually before the inevitable team building exercise or other personal development course.
You have to be self aware of your strengths and weaknesses before you can guide others they say.
THEY ARE ALL COBBLERS
Edit - My group is
Bruce Willis, George W. Bush, Vespasian, Colin Powell, Martha Gellhorn (war correspondent), Lyndon B. Johnson

ISTJ
Herbert Hoover, Harry S. Truman, Kirk Douglas, Clint Eastwood, Greta Garbo
|
But I can't imagine why they put the full stop after the S in Harry S Truman.
|
Not sure about the Greta Garbo bit tho, is there something you need to tell us? IN touch with your feminine side perhaps?
|
If only it were so simple. Now I must just adjust my mascara before my team meeting.
Not that it goes on my eyes, you understand.
|
>> Herbert Hoover, Harry S. Truman, Kirk Douglas, Clint Eastwood, Greta Garbo
Ditto!
I'll try telling Mrs F this evening that it's been proven scientifically that I am like Clint Eastwood, and see where it gets me. (Might not mention Greta Garbo.)

The immense majority of human biographies are a gray transit between domestic spasm and oblivion.
George Steiner.

Stephen Hawking, Andrew Grove, Marie Curie, Guy Kawasaki, Igor Sikorsky, Hillary Clinton.
Hmm, that's a worry - Hillary Clinton..

I first read that as gay transit.

Funnily enough, I saw a Jay on my bird table yesterday, I have to keep dog-eye because those Penguins

ISJF
Jimmy Carter, Frederic Chopin, Jane Fonda.
And I wasn't suited to be a lorry driver either!
My profile was done some years ago and I found it on my PC this morning and read it through again.
It's just as much rubbish now as it was then:)

Well to be fair if you showed my ISTJ assessment to Mrs F (ignoring the Clint Eastwood bit) she would probably say it's not far off the truth.

That's how I know it's wrong!
Ian says mine is spot on too:)

INFJ - profile of a typical Counseler!! - my "celebs" include: Nicole Kidman, John Calvin?, and very worryingly Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandella!!!!!!!!!
Its definitely not an accurate test to "classify" a person!!
|
Not far off the truth for me.
Mother Teresa, Agatha Christie, Frederic Chopin....blimey.

I would draw a distinction between saying the test results are rubbish and spending days on a course looking at the results being a waste of time.
I've found the base test results (as most above agree) are quite uncannily accurate and the only folks that say they're nothing like the profile are the ones who don't like elements of what they see.
But as for sitting around in different coloured hats... or standing on different coloured mats... in a hotel conference room or workplace training centre... makes no difference to people's attitudes the next day.
I did the test on behalf of Mrs F and she comes out all George Bush/Bruce Willis like Zero which fits as her finger always hovers over the button marked Nuke em.

Been there...and thrown different balls at each other!

Me too. Too many times.
On one such event, the team I was in managed to produce " the second higest score they had ever seen" We were rated as rubbish for team work. No idea how that was the conclusion.
I still had to work with some real useless individuals who had also been on the courses.
|
Team building in the pub - simples.
|
The balls are handy...if my class of 15 lorry drivers get bored I get my balls out and we play 'pretend' :)
I allocate one as the transport manager, workshop, loaders, Good In, MD etc.
It wakes them up and gets them laughing!
Learning is easy if you can enjoy it.

I've just read what I wrote.............

And me Pat - I put it down to your early start !

Yes, nearly bedtime for me now:)
They know what I mean anyway and I never did have any 'finesse'!
Pat

I did and it made me laugh.
|
Worryingly accurate, but not sure whether I should show it toSWMBO?
Richard Feynman, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, James Cameron,Alexander the Great
Confederate General J. E. B. Stuart, Sir Walter Raleigh Walt Disney
Benjamin Franklin
Nicola Tesla
Sally Ride
Abraham Lincoln
Buckminster Fuller
But the scores were relatively low - does this imply that I could easily be switched into another category? I often feel that the simplistic questions Y/N would attract different answers depending on mood, time of day, alcohol intake?

I find Myers Briggs fascinating, probably because I'm INFP ;-)
When you are negotiating with or managing people, or even working for them, MB can provide useful understanding even if you don't know how they test - you can observe the behaviours, guess at where they are on the dimensions, and to some extent work out how best to get what you want.
It's not cobblers of course - though it's typical of an ESTJ to say that about something they see no use for ;-)
There's a good article on Wiki - there's a clickable table of the 16 types about halfway down which takes you to articles on each type.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator
I'm in the wrong job - suggested INFPs include George Orwell, Arthur C Clarke, Shakespeare, Princess Diana (not sure about that one), Beethoven, Albert Schweitzer, Richard Gere and Isabel Myers herself.

And people moan on here that *I* label them!
The mischievous among us, offer the stereotypical chip in head replaced manager, behaviours to enable them to label us into the group they have been trained to observe, all the while actually doing something else when they are not around.

I am being slightly mischievous of course. And often the bit that is cobblers is how these things are misused slavishly or as a substitute for common sense, thought and judgement. That's why I hated the psychometric stuff when it was popular.
I once had a "meet the MD" interview, having already been offered the job by the marketing director. He said "have you given us a sample?". I had no idea what he was on about, so I said "Well, not yet, but I understand there's a medical".
He actually meant a handwriting sample for graphological analysis., which he was very keen on!

John Glenn and Amelia Earhart I can identify with but Charles Bronson & Clint?
