Diesel generators - night use - Fursty Ferret
Metrolink are still working on their bleedin' trams next to my flat, but have now installed a diesel generator down in the cutting. Unfortunately, the vibrations can be felt everywhere in the building - even the radiators are buzzing - and it's impossible to sleep.

The council aren't answering the noise complaint number. Neither are Metrolink.

Does anyone know a working number (been trying 0161 234 5004)?

I got creative with an issue in a halls of residence with a problem in 1993. With access to the Internet now I would hope you can sort this. I sorted (albeit a different) problem at a weekend that needed sorting ASAP.

When I spoke to the council back then though they basically were useless but due to the nature of the problem said I would have to involve the police. Talking to management of the halls of residence I persuaded them to sort it.

I'd be tempted to turn the generator off.

SABOTAGE IS not TO BE CONDONED, BUT A LACK OF SLEEP WOULD DRIVE ONE TO EXTRAORDINARY LENGTHS. (wear gloves)

Is there a name (other than Metrolink) on the workmens' vans you could get a number for? Or is there someone on-site wearing a suit under his hi-viz vest who you could have a word with (might tell you to ring someone higher up)?

I would phone your local councillor - point out to him what you do for a living, and tell him unless he sorts it he could be responsible for anything that happens if you fall asleep in work.

Sugar in the diesel tank will get you a good few nights sleep.

Not sure that works with a diesel. Will stop a petrol engine that uses a carburettor but a modern injected engine might get away with it.

Believe me, if it could have been, uh, "deactivated" last night it would have been! Managed to get to sleep after finding a set of ear plugs I'd shoved in my bag from work.

Can you not arrange for yourself or some of your mates to fly over and "bomb" it with great chunks of blue-ice? - from a dizzy height ;-)

The diesel pumps tolorances work in microns the slightest bit of sticky goo will sludge the pump to stop.

But saying that it's all very naughty and i can't condone anything like that to railway property.
